Noguchi Garden

Noguchi Garden — formally known as California Scenario — is a 1.6-acre outdoor sculpture garden by Japanese-American artist Isamu Noguchi, tucked between office towers in Costa Mesa, California. Commissioned in 1979 by developer Henry T. Segerstrom and completed in 1982, it distills the full geographic diversity of California into seven sculptural scenarios of stone, water, metal, and native plantings. Widely recognized as one of the country's preeminent public sculpture gardens, it offers a rare oasis of contemplation amid the commercial intensity of South Coast Plaza. The garden is free to the public and open daily, making it one of Southern California's most accessible encounters with major land-art sculpture. Visitors can wander winding sandstone streams, ascend a redwood-lined Forest Walk, and pause at the monumental Spirit of the Lima Bean — a fitting tribute to the land's agricultural past now surrounded by retail empires.
