Sea Glass Beach

A shoreline glittering with thousands of smooth, jewel-coloured glass pebbles is not what most people picture when they think of Bermuda's beaches, but Sea Glass Beach delivers exactly that. Tucked just outside the Royal Naval Dockyard on Ireland Island South, this small cove is a mosaic of emerald, cobalt, amber and seafoam-green fragments that decades of Atlantic waves have tumbled into rounded, frosted gems. The effect is vivid and photogenic, especially when sunlight hits the glass at an angle and the whole beach seems to shimmer like scattered candy. This is not a place to lay out a towel and spend the afternoon. It is a place to walk slowly, look down, pick up a piece of glass and feel its smooth weight, then set it back where you found it and keep going. In fifteen or twenty minutes you will have soaked in a genuinely unusual coastal landscape and a dozen good photographs. Pair it with a swim at nearby Theo's Cove or a longer exploration of the Dockyard's museums and shops, and Sea Glass Beach becomes the memorable oddity that makes the whole half-day feel a little more adventurous.
