MP3 Pleinmont

MP3 Pleinmont is a remarkably preserved World War II German naval observation tower on the west coast of Guernsey, one of the Channel Islands. Built in 1942 with twelve-foot-thick reinforced concrete walls, this five-storey rangefinding tower was the linchpin of an ambitious but ultimately abandoned plan to create a network of six such structures around the island. Today it operates as a museum you can climb floor by floor, with original-style rangefinders reinstalled and an interpretation that explains just how this extraordinary piece of military engineering worked. The site sits within the wider remains of Batterie Generaloberst Dollmann, once one of the most powerful coastal artillery positions in the Channel Islands, and a recommended circular walk connects the tower to gun emplacements, a radar station, a minefield marker, and the contrasting unrestored sibling tower MP4 just a kilometer away.
