Manudevi Temple

High in the green folds of the Satpuda (Satpura) range above Adgaon, in Jalgaon district's Yawal taluka, Shri Manudevi Temple is far more than a quiet hilltop shrine: for a large share of families across Khandesh it is the kuldevi—the supreme family deity—whose name is invoked at weddings, housewarmings and moments of crisis. The Goddess Manudevi, also venerated as the eight-armed Ashtabhuja Devi, is treated as a Shakti Peeth, a seat of divine feminine power, and pilgrims climb to her hilltop sanctum from the plains below year-round, swelling into crowds during the great festivals. What draws visitors beyond devotion is the setting itself. The temple sits at roughly 500 metres amid steep cliffs, tall forest and the fertile Tapi valley to the south, with a waterfall said to tumble some 400 feet from the escarpment for six to seven months of the year. An ancient-looking sanctuary, remnants of a long-lost hill kingdom, a line of sweet-water wells and a serene pond on the way up give the pilgrimage the feel of a journey through landscape and legend rather than a single darshan.
