Norfolk Island · NF

Moo-oo Stone

Moo-oo Stone is a dramatic offshore rock formation standing off Norfolk Island's windswept north-west coast, inside the Captain Cook section of Norfolk Island National Park. Rather than a summit or a building you climb into, it is one of a cluster of named sea stacks—alongside Bird Rock, Cathedral Rock, Green Pool Stone and Elephant Rock—that you watch from the cliff-top, their weathered silhouettes rising out of the South Pacific swell. The best way to meet Moo-oo Stone is the cliff-top walk to the Captain Cook Monument and Lookout, the spot where James Cook first came ashore in 1774 and famously called the island a paradise. From the pine-fringed headlands here, the coastline throws up a parade of rock formations, and the Moo-oo Stone is one of the named features the trail points out as you follow the clifftop.
