Silver Saucer Fountain
On the flagstones of the Place du Casino, directly in front of the glittering façade of the Casino de Monte-Carlo, a polished silver disc seems to hover over a pool of water. This is the Silver Saucer Fountain, and its shimmering centrepiece is Anish Kapoor's *Sky Mirror* — a concave stainless-steel sculpture that catches and reflects the sky, the palm trees and the casino above it. It is one of the most photographed spots on the Riviera, and almost every visitor to Monaco passes it at least once. Part public artwork, part wishing fountain, part meeting point, it turns the grand forecourt of the casino into a playful, mirror-bright stage. Stand over the disc and the buildings around you curve and bend into the metal; lean in and the Mediterranean sky appears to drop down into the water. Tourists toss coins into the basin just as they would in any famous fountain, making a wish against the backdrop of one of the world's most storied gambling halls.
