Egerland-Museum
The Egerland Museum in Marktredwitz, tucked into the Fichtelgebirge hills of northern Bavaria, is dedicated to preserving the culture and memory of the Egerland — the old German-speaking corner of western Bohemia around the spa towns of Karlsbad, Marienbad and Franzensbad. Housed in the Egerland-Kulturhaus since 1973, it serves as both a museum and a meeting place for the families displaced from that region after the Second World War. What looks from the street like a modest building opens up into a surprisingly rich world: a permanent journey through the life, crafts and customs of the Egerland, a fine gallery of 20th-century art rooted in the region, and a recreated 1900s spa-town promenade lined with porcelain, glass and mineral-stone souvenirs. Visitors often say that once they step inside, they never want to leave.
