Museum of Natural History
Tucked into the northeast corner of Copenhagen's Botanical Garden, the Natural History Museum of Denmark (Statens Naturhistoriske Museum) is a compact, surprisingly rich museum where centuries-old mineral collections, a 16-ton meteorite from Greenland, dinosaur fossils, and magnificent early-20th-century murals all share a single 1893 building. The museum's collections stretch back to 1772, when the University of Copenhagen first gathered its natural-history specimens. Today visitors can marvel at glowing crystals in the Mineral Hall, stand face-to-face with Protoceratops skeletons arranged in a tender family tableau, and step outside to touch a meteorite that fell over a thousand years ago.
