Marlboro Hill
Marlboro Hill is Sagada's highest summit and its most beloved sunrise destination—a pine-clad ridge that rewards a short pre-dawn hike with sweeping 360-degree views of mountain ranges, illuminated rice terraces, and on the right morning, a breathtaking sea of clouds rolling through the valley below. Locally known as kaman baneng (roughly "like a ridge"), this rolling hillside stepped into the spotlight after Sagada's original Kiltepan Viewpoint closed following a 2018 fire. Today it offers the same cloud-inversion spectacle that drew travelers there for years—plus a warmer, more communal atmosphere with food stalls and coffee stands at the top. The trek is beginner-friendly: roughly 40 minutes to an hour of uphill walking through pine forest, with some steep stretches that may leave you breathless in the cool mountain air. The payoff is worth every step—you'll reach a wide, open summit just as the sky begins to crack open with color.
