Maalem Tamda
Maalem Tamda is a quiet mountain peak rising above Ech Chaïba on the dry southern edge of the Algerian Aurès, the great folded massif that forms the eastern Saharan Atlas. It is not a famous summit with visitor centres or marked trails, but precisely that understated character is its appeal: a spare, open hill for walkers who want space, clean light and long views over semi-desert ridges rather than a queue at a viewpoint. In outdoor listings it is logged as a landmark and hiking spot near the town, where visitors have left warm reviews about the experience of being up there — a small but telling sign that the climb rewards those who make it. Most people come for the hill itself: the walk out through rocky ground and scrub, the sense of distance from any road, and the wide, hushed panorama from the high point.
