Ragged Point
Ragged Point marks the easternmost tip of Barbados, where a weathered coral-stone lighthouse perches atop a 200-foot cliff overlooking the churning Atlantic. This dramatic headland in the parish of Saint Philip is one of the island's most iconic viewpoints — part maritime monument, part windswept wilderness. The East Point Lighthouse, erected in 1875, is Barbados' tallest and most historically significant lighthouse, built to guard against the deadly reef that claimed 22 ships in just fifty years. Though the tower itself is closed to entry, the grounds remain open, and the scene of the white conical tower against a black lantern, framed by ragged cliffs and roaring surf, rewards photographers and sightseers alike.
