The hotel has its own restaurant, so you can start there for a meal without going far. For other options, the lakefront and town centre are just a short walk away, with places like Atlas Beer Cafe at Steamer Wharf and Botswana Butchery on Marine Parade. You will also find cafes and restaurants along the pedestrian streets of central Queenstown, all within about a 10 to 15 minute walk from the hotel. The compact town centre makes it easy to wander and pick a spot that suits you.
You are right on Queenstown's lakefront, with Lake Wakatipu across the road and the town centre a 10-minute walk away. The hotel's own restaurant is on site, and the surrounding streets are full of shops, cafes and eateries. Queenstown Gardens are an 11-minute walk, and the Fear Factory is 10 minutes away. The area is compact and walkable, with the gondola base and other adventure activities like the KJet and Ziptrek within a 12-13 minute stroll. For anything further, the local bus network and ferry services connect you to the wider region.
From Queenstown Airport, take the No. 1 bus toward Fernhill and get off in front of Rydges Hotel, a 2-minute walk from the hostel. Taxis and ride-hailing services are also available at the terminal for a direct trip. The airport is about 9.5 km away, and driving takes roughly 15 minutes. Queenstown has no main train station; the airport is the primary arrival point. If you are coming by bus from other cities, the town centre is a 10-minute lakeside walk from the hostel.
In the evening, you can start at the hotel's own Restaurant, then step out to the lakefront at Steamer Wharf, where Atlas Beer Cafe is a short walk away. The wharf area has restaurants and bars with lake views, and the town centre is a 10-minute walk along the lakefront. For a scenic option, you could take a water taxi across Lake Wakatipu. Nearby, Queenstown Gardens (11 min walk) is a pleasant spot for a stroll after dark.
Haka House Queenstown Lakefront is a great base for exploring Queenstown. You can walk to Fear Factory Queenstown in 10 minutes, Queenstown Gardens in 11, and Skyline Queenstown in 12. The Tiki Trail, Kiwi Park, and Ziptrek Ecotours are all about a 13-minute walk away. For farther sights like Milford Sound or the Shotover River, you can join tours that pick up from town. The lakefront location puts you close to the town centre, so you can easily head out on foot or catch a bus for longer trips.
