For a quick bite, Center4 Hamburgers and EVILTEX Hamburghers & Mexican Food are nearby, while Matsuki Sushi and Menya Shirakawa serve sushi and ramen. For local flavors, try Hidagyu Maruaki for Hida beef, Ajikura Tengoku for Japanese cuisine, or Heianraku for local dishes. Suzuya Restaurant offers traditional Japanese ambiance, and Coffee Don is a good spot for coffee. Naniwa Sushi and Japanese-style Restaurant Wakijin are also within a short walk, as are Suzuya and Restaurant Le Midi.
The hotel sits in the heart of Takayama's historic district, surrounded by traditional wooden machiya townhouses. Takayama Jinya is a 3-minute walk away, and the Sanmachi Suji historic street is 6 minutes on foot. The Miyagawa Morning Markets are a 9-minute walk, where you can browse local produce and crafts. The area is known for Hida beef and sake breweries, with shops and eateries along the old streets. Takayama Train Station is a short walk, making it easy to explore further afield.
From Takayama Train Station, take the East exit and turn right on the main road. Turn left at the second traffic light, continue straight, and at the second set of traffic lights turn left. Walk about 5 meters and the hotel is on your right. The station is roughly a 6-minute walk or about 470 meters away. If you arrive by air, Toyama Airport is the nearest, about 80 kilometers from the hotel, so a taxi or pre-booked transfer is the practical way to cover that distance. From the station, you can also easily reach the hotel on foot without needing any other transport.
In the evening, you can stroll to Sanmachi Suji, a 6-minute walk away, where traditional shops and sake breweries stay lively. The Takayama Matsuri Yatai Kaikan, a 15-minute walk, showcases festival floats. For a relaxed evening, the hotel's lounge with its tsuboniwa garden offers local green tea. Nearby, you'll find dining spots like Suzuya Restaurant, Matsuki Sushi, and Menya Shirakawa for a meal. The Miyagawa Morning Markets are a 9-minute walk, though they're best in the morning. For a longer evening outing, the Higashiyama Trail is a tranquil walk among temples.
Yes, The Machiya Hotel Takayama is an excellent base for exploring the city. You can walk to Takayama Jinya in 3 minutes, the Hida Takayama Retro Museum in 5 minutes, and Sanmachi Suji in 6 minutes.
