Wow! If I could give more stars, I would. We had such an exceptional week at In The Shade Hotel. Patrick, Michelle, Maggie, and Sandra were all top notch. From the moment you check in to the moment you leave, you’re always greeted with a warm hello and made to feel welcome. The Garden Café is amazing. Breakfast, lunch, and smoothies were all delicious, and the portions are generous. The pool is one of the warmest I’ve ever been in, with plenty of shade to relax comfortably. We stayed in the corner suite, which felt very private. It overlooks the restaurant next door, but everything quiets down after 10pm, so it’s still a peaceful area.|The rooms include towels and hand towels, but no facecloths, so I’d recommend bringing your own. It’s not a big deal, just something to note. There is also laundry on site for a small fee, and they even fold everything for you, which was a great bonus. They also host Thursday night socials, which is a fun way to meet other guests. The location is perfect. About a 5 to 7 minute walk to the beach, with lots of shops and restaurants nearby. There are also two local markets that are definitely worth checking out. All rooms will offer a kitchenette. We’re already planning our next trip back

We really enjoyed it here. Patrick and the rest of the staff were excellent. Very helpful! The Thursday mixer was a nice touch to meet like minded travelers and we appreciated the complimentary food and drinks. The pool is amazing and offered both sun and shade depending on how hot you get! There is no lack of chairs. The location is perfect. Close to the beach but far enough away from the chaos of Tamarindo. Thanks for everything!

I stayed here for a week in Jan 2026 and had a fabulous experience. The hotel is a great place to stay in Tamarindo - it's on a side road so you're away from the main noise but very close to all the bars / restaurants + a supermarket and gym within a 5 minute walk. The hotel's pool is amazing - a really good size for proper swimming and always immaculately clean. The hotel owners + staff are all wonderful - catering to every need and generally nice people and lovely to talk to. The hotel also organises a social for all guests on Thursday which was a really good way to meet fellow solo travellers. The wi-fi is really strong - I worked remotely / did calls with no issues.

I really enjoyed my stay here and fully intend to come back. The rooms were spotless, the beds were genuinely comfortable, and the air conditioning worked exactly the way you want it to in Costa Rica. The pool area was also exceptionally clean and a great place to relax between activities. Having a private balcony or patio was an unexpectedly nice perk—it made the space feel more like a retreat than a standard hotel stay. The staff were consistently helpful, and the owners were on site with thoughtful recommendations for activities and places to eat. Every meal and smoothie I had was excellent. The location couldn’t be more convenient: about a 10-minute walk to the beach, two minutes to a grocery store and pharmacy, and an easy stroll to shops, restaurants, and bars. Overall, it’s comfortable, well-run, and perfectly situated. I’ll definitely be back.

We were very comfortable and very pleased with our three night stay last week. We had a positive experience with the STAFf location, morning breakfast, morning swims and perfect location to town and Thursday night street fair. Loved the vibe,adults only genius! Thank you ,I highly recommend.

I'm so glad that I found this hotel. There are not a lot rooms which was fine. Adults only which was also fine. My room was great. Every room is by the pool which was great. The hotel is walking distance (5 to 10 minutes) from many bars, restaurants, and the beach. There's a great variety of restaurants also. I recommend staying here if possible.

Amazing experience at In the Shade Hotel! The service was excellent, and the amenities were outstanding. The pool was well maintained and very comfortable to relax by. It was totally worth it!

The owner is a terribly rude American. Came here to the cafe that’s advertised and bought a drink and was minding my own buisness reading when the owner came up to tell me that we couldn’t use the WiFi. Which I was not using their wife and never asked, I was usuing cellular. Then he made me leave, I had only been there about 20 minutes. He had such a terrible and nasty attitude, please give your buisness to a local Costa Rican, there are much better places to stay. If you want to gentrify Costa Rica at least leave your nasty American attitude in the US .
