If you like to stay in Stone Age era dwellings, then Why Not Hotel is the perfect place for you in Antigua. The wifi does not work in the bedrooms (only communal areas), the showers flood into the bedrooms, all room windows face into other people’s rooms, and negotiations with staff are conducted like cattle trades. After booking a room for two people for two nights, and the WiFi failing to work in our room, we asked for a refund and to leave. We were told refunds were not allowed even though this was 10 minutes into us arriving and were offered an alternative of a better room for only one night. If we wanted to stay two nights in a better room, we would have to pay the difference. After much discussion, we finally got a ‘better’ room for the original two nights - where the WiFi was only patchy rather than completely non-existent. When we arrived we were told to join a hostel activities WhatsApp group. It has now been a week since our stay and I am yet to see a message in that chat. There are much better hostels in Antigua. I would not stay here again. Location good though. 👍

Based on other reviews this feels like a pretty hit or miss place, thankfully we were lucky and enjoyed our stay! We had a room on the top floor, it was spacious and we had no issues with the water. We loved the rooftop and the location. The hotel was very clean and decorated nicely. Be advised that people do hangout on the roof until pretty late which can be loud. We travel with earplugs so it didn't bother me as much.

I give this place 3 stars as an average grade for the following reasons:|5 stars to the staff for being extremely helpful and accommodating and professional.|5 stars for the cleanliness of the place.|3 stars for lack of air conditioning, tiny bathroom, toilet paper dispenser (pre-cut 2 sheets at a time) and windows that had to remained closed which made the room very stifling. |The place is more like a Hostel than a Hotel.

WORST hotel experience of my entire 6-month trip. I stayed at Why Not Hotel in Antigua for two nights and I barely slept at all. There were loud parties both nights that went on until the early morning. I politely asked the people partying to lower the volume, but they completely ignored me and continued making noise ALL NIGHT. I then went to the receptionist for help. His exact response was: “I already tried telling them, it doesn’t change anything.” So don’t expect the staff to solve any issues. The walls are EXTREMELY thin, the beds are FAR too small for two people, and the Wi-Fi barely worked during my stay. To make things worse, they refused any refund despite the terrible experience. DO NOT stay here if you are planning to hike Acatenango or Fuego. Getting proper rest before such a demanding trek is essential, and this hotel COMPLETELY ruined that part of my trip. Without a doubt, this was the WORST hotel I have stayed in during six months of traveling.

Only book it if nothing else is available. The location is good and the design is cute. It’s is very clean. There is warm water. Now the cons. The cleaning starts very early and comes with a lot of noise (moving metal furniture on stone floor early mornings etc.), along with the continuously running very clearly audible washing machine. The dorms have no actual outside windows and do smell. The “lockers” can’t be locked. The bathrooms are not really ideal or practical. No communal area inside to socialise or connect. Plan and organise your needed tours / transport yourself or elsewhere, not with them. Communication is more than draining in writing and face to face, no matter which language and doesn’t go anywhere.

The location was great here but the price for my room seemed excessive for what you're getting. I would have been all good with this if it were half the price. The room was clean, but so damp and musty smelling and the bed was so uncomfortable it was like the mattress was just sunken. I had just come back from the overnight volcano tour and literally the little mountain shack dorm cot was more comfortable. The people who worked there were nice, but I was disappointed there was not even coffee or anything. There were much nicer places i stayed in in antigua for better prices that even had breakfast and stuff.

The place is well designed and really nice but my experience in a shared dorm room wasn’t a good one. Some lockers were broken and unable to be locked, there were no electrical outlets near the beds, pillow was extremely thin and uncomfortable and the bed sheet wasn’t fitted and mostly slipped off in middle of the night. The place would also benefit from adding more shared bathrooms and showers.

LOVED STAYING HERE. The beds were so comfortable and everyone was so sweet. The place was really nice and absolutely worth the price. There was no kitchen and limited bathrooms, but it still worked totally fine. It was clean and central to anything I wanted to go to
