Great location in Jordaan — lots of places within easy walking distance. The transitional décor looks nice and feels pleasant. Staff were friendly and everything was quick and efficient. Only small issue was that the front desk forgot to give us a luggage ticket when we stored our bags. A bit inconvenient, but it didn’t affect our trip at all. Overall a solid stay.

It's a lovely, cute hotel, but our room, number 107 or 105, had stairs. It seems like a strange experience to live with a tall stair right in your room. Plus, we were staying with a friend, and the shower is transparent and located right across from the bed. It's a rather strange experience, and it might not suit everyone.

A disappointing stay… We stayed at this hotel for four nights in room 504 as a father and daughter. We requested a twin room, which we were given, but it might as well have been a double room with a single bed, as the two beds were pushed right next to each other. They couldn’t be moved apart either due to the built-in bedside tables. The most bizarre thing was the bathroom. The sink and shower area had no door at all, which was very strange. I’m not sure if this is a Dutch thing or simply an aesthetic choice, but as a father and daughter sharing a room, it definitely wasn’t ideal. There was also very little storage space, meaning our belongings were left everywhere. We only had hand luggage each and still struggled for space, so I can’t imagine how difficult it would be if you had brought larger suitcases. And then there was the air-conditioning unit — probably the loudest air-con I have ever experienced. It was like sleeping next to a jet engine. We understand that some hotels lock their windows due to the risk of smoking or for health and safety reasons, but we were desperate for some fresh air in the room. Even having a window that was securely latched but could open slightly would have made a huge difference. Without any fresh air, the room felt very stuffy. The biggest issue, however, was the toilet. It made a constant dripping sound throughout the night. We reported this to reception, but unfortunately it was never fixed. As the hotel was fully booked, we were unable to move rooms. Instead, we were given a drinks voucher for the bar, although this was only valid on a selection of drinks. While we appreciated the gesture, it didn’t really resolve the issue of having to listen to the dripping toilet throughout the night. The mini fridge also made a constant buzzing sound, and being right next to the bed, this was another source of noise at night. For the price of the hotel, we expected a few more amenities, such as milk for tea and coffee, fresh drinking water, or even a bin by the sink. Unfortunately, these small details were missing. That being said, the hotel itself is gorgeous. The location is great for walking, Jordaan is a beautiful area, and you’re literally just down the road from Anne Frank House. Overall, we felt the hotel was much more suited to couples than friends or family members sharing a room. For a hotel that presents itself as a high-end experience, we expected more, particularly for the price we paid. Unfortunately, we won’t be returning.

“Well, you don’t seem blind. Why do you need a service dog?” That is how staff at Hotel Mercier spoke to me. They initially did not want to let me enter with my assistance dog and explicitly told me he was banned from the restaurant. They repeatedly questioned me about what he does for my disability. I supplied documentation and was still treated as though my presence was a problem. Then, when I challenged their treatment and said I would report it, they produced a different excuse: apparently, their manager said I had previously had “a glass of wine too many.” That is a lie. I live beside this hotel. I have visited three times for tea. I do not drink at their hotel bar. The sequence matters. First, my assistance dog was the problem. When I challenged that, suddenly my supposed drinking was the problem. I believe this was an attempt to smear my character rather than answer for their own behavior. Making a false allegation about a customer is a disgraceful response to a discrimination complaint. The ignorance was appalling. The interrogation was humiliating. The attempt to discredit me afterward was the most contemptible part. I have reported this incident to the discrimination reporting service. I hope it results in accountability, because staff should not be able to humiliate someone over an assistance dog and then hide behind a fabricated accusation when challenged. Hotel Mercier has an expensive-looking interior. In my experience, its hospitality was cheap, its treatment degrading, and its response beneath contempt.

Lovely experience staying at this hotel for a night! Staff was very helpful and available 24/7. Rooms are on the smaller side but maintained very nicely and clean. The reception helped me arrange a driver to the airport when no Ubers were available (& charged a reasonable price) which was much appreciated. Thanks so much!

The location is pleasant, but the service does not match the price. The room is expensive, yet it was not cleaned even though we were out all day. When I raised it at the front desk, I was told, without the slightest embarrassment, that housekeeping is only done every 4 days. The hotel advertises daily housekeeping on Booking, Expedia and other platforms. This policy is not mentioned anywhere at the time of booking. For a hotel of this standard, cleaning once every 4 days is simply unacceptable. The staff were also unpleasant: no apology, no solution offered, just the feeling of being a nuisance. At this price, you expect at least some attentiveness and consideration. I would not recommend it

My stay here was ok, and mirrors a few things commented on by others. I booked this without realising I had booked a windowless room (!!) - it’s a bit like the love is blind corridor and you feel like you are in some sort of experiment or TV show. The rooms themselves are clean, well decorated and comfortable but would I have preferred a widow - yes. I feel like I’ve paid to start seasonal depression early. I appeared to have 2 air con units but neither worked - I couldn’t change the temperature at all and so the room was slightly hotter (23degrees) than I would have liked. They send you an email a few hours after checking in with a one pager - maybe something to add in to here? The main lights in my room wouldn’t switch on either so was permanently in a state of low light other than in the bathroom. The location is great and really close to De 9 Straatjes and Anne Franks house. I didn’t eat here or use the bar so can’t comment on those services

This lovely hotel is an absolute gem! Full of charm, character, and wonderful staff. Rooms are very clean with air conditioning that works extremely well! Location can't be beat, just a 4 minute walk to the Anne Frank House. Highly recommend Hotel Mercier!
