My wife, five year old daughter and I really enjoyed our two night stay here. Great location and home base to explore Antigua. Food and cocktails were delicious and the pool, playground and playhouse open on weekends were magnets for our daughter. Air conditioning and comfortable beds gave us great sleep and recharge for next day. Highly recommend

This is a great property in Antigua. In a great neighborhood close to everything - a few blocks from the central square and lots of great restaurants and cafes within a block or two. All of the staff were very attentive. Special shout out to Kevyn and Gabriel at the front desk who both went above and beyond to help make my stay a five star experience. Instead of just saying 'it's not possible' they both found a way to support my requests and did it with positive attitudes and great customer service. I look forward to seeing them when i come back in a few months

Avoid this place at all costs. I rarely write reviews but I have to warn people about this place. When I got there, I drank from the "purified" potable water they put in the rooms - terrible idea. I woke up in the middle of the night in excruciating pain, nauseous, fever, vomiting every 10 minutes. Had an absolutely brutal first 2-3 days because of that food poisoning. The staff was completely unhelpful - I asked their 24/7 digital concierge if they could bring me some water because I couldn't get out of bed. They declined, just offering that I could spend $120 for some therapeutic healing ritual. I continued begging them, and eventually they said they could bring a bottle of water I could purchase (the regular drinkable water which is normally free for everyone, that I was asking for, was literally like 50 feet from my door, but nope, gotta gouge the sick person). Even then it took them 3 hours, by which time I had already crawled (literally, it took like 45 minutes) down the street to the pharmacy to get water. After I recovered, it was still awful. Multiple nights at ~10pm someone would start this insanely loud yardwork, and I had to come out and shout over it to ask them to stop. On what planet is that a reasonable thing to do at a hotel at 10pm?? On weeknights also. And it wasn't some one-off contractor, the people clearly worked with the hotel regularly. I'd been traveling around central america for about a year, and this was far and away the worst experience.

The hotel layout is so nice. Beautiful grounds to walk around with paintings to admire and local artisans provide handmade wares to shop (albeit pricier than outside the hotel). The rooms are large and have everything you need, and the staff is fast to assist their guests. The hotel pool is large and makes for excellent lounging. The hotel restaurant is pricey but convenient.

Porta Hotel is stunning! We had a lovely stay. The rooms were comfortable, and the grounds were gorgeous. I highly recommend breakfast - I didn't realize by looking at the website that there is a buffet available, which starts at 7 a.m. This was very convenient for the days we had early tours, and had everything from an egg station to fresh fruit, breakfast tamales (I don't recall the name), plantains, breakfast meats, and sweet breads. The staff was wonderful and the location was ideal for walking around town. Would definitely stay again!

Let me start by saying, I’m hard pressed to ever leave a poor review for any establishment. I stayed one night as part of a tour. Perhaps their customer service is so apathetic because they cater to large tour groups that breeze in and out for short stays. Who knows. Not an excuse in my opinion for a 5 star hotel at a 5 star price. First, the room. It was decent. Spent an hour killing flies. That got old quick. The ceiling fan was broken. They said there was an electrical problem so all fans in the hotel were locked off. There’s AC, though. However, needed a fan because the bugs were landing on the bed. Oddly, the bathroom has one of those industrial 2-in-1 light/fans that’s so loud you can’t talk to the person standing right next to you or hear thoughts in your head. I’d expect these at a 1 or 2 star roadside motel built decades ago and never updated. Very unpleasant. I kept the light off so I wouldn’t have to listen to it. I wouldn’t stay here again based on that alone. And the bar soap was wet, used and re-wrapped. Ick. This is what really got me, truly. The restaurant, Los Moros- service was abysmal. Let’s just say non existent. I was totally ignored. I sat at the table for almost 30 minutes- nobody even poured a glass of water. I watched 2 other parties walk in and get served right away. I tried smiling and making eye contact with the ladies, like hello, can someone please help here?! It was quite obvious. Nothing. Mind you, the restaurant was almost empty- maybe four tables. Being busy wasn’t the issue. So, I leave, to enjoy dinner outside the hotel, which wasn’t easy to find. On the way out, I stopped by the front desk to let them know what happened. It was like talking to a wall. No apology, no concern shown. Actually, no response at all. Just more of feeling ignored and invisible, like I felt in their restaurant. Also, mentioned my room was full of flies; Just ignored that, too. I let it be. The location. A half mile walk to the center. There isn’t much around the hotel itself. It borders the outskirts of the historic center. A few restaurants around, but not great ones. The area feels dead. Through the night, I heard traffic and cats fighting. It’s fine for a hotel of any level to have shortcomings, and things go awry sometimes. It’s how it’s dealt with that makes all the difference in the world. It’s about people and service. This is what I found shockingly, almost comically bad here. And this is the opposite of Guatemalan hospitality.

We really enjoyed our stay here but there was a lot of misinformation. Room/location: our room was great, clean and quiet. We loved the courtyard. The hotel was central to a lot of sites within the city so made walking to each one very easy. The hotel is 1.5 hours away instead of the 50 minutes advertised. The charge for us leaving on a Sunday was $75 instead of the $60 on the website for a shuttle. We were also told to leave at 9 am for a 2 pm flight due to delays on Sunday from road closure and processions; however, it seems this is traffic entering the city and not leaving. We wish the hotel communicated these things better as travelers we are unaware and plan based off information that’s available on the website. We are now sitting at the airport with 4+ hours till our flight.

Stayed four nights with family. Outstanding hospitality, beautiful accommodations, central location, excellent breakfast buffet, delightful live music. Blends history and culture through carefully curated art and gardens. Many secluded nooks for conversation, and/or contemplation. Pet and kid friendly. Excellent value for the price! Our only disappointment was that the backside of our room bordered a cobblestone street that was noisy at night when vehicles passed at speed. Fortunately there are many more rooms that are quiet.
