Stayed in a Junior Suite and a little disappointed in the service with having to request on a constant basis for things like coffee, tea and water to be restocked on a daily basis. The doonah quilt was 🤮 See photo! Gym is horrific with water not being restocked and it's quite sad with a single bike, 2 treadmills and one bench. The sauna is absolutely filthy and I left within 10 mins when it failed to heat up to a temperature worth waiting for. You got a better temperature rise from the stuffy gym. Cookes restaurant was nice for food, but expensive. Presentation was great, the entrees are not their strength, but mains and desserts are. Given no parking nearby, you must use the vallet service at 65NZD per day. Unlimited calls, but quite an upcharge. Location is incredible. This place is a self acclaimed 5 star but I would put it no higher than 3.5 due to the state of the hotel. Spend your money wisely.

My stay at the fable was okay. When we arrived the reception area was moved to the restaurant which seemed a bit overwhelming. We had booked a valentines day package which included a King Superior room, upon check in we were told the room was changed to a Junior suite with no further explanation. When we arrived in the room it had a strong damp smell and the carpet between the bed and bathroom was damp which was disappointing. My husband didn't want to make a fuss but given the price we paid I expected better. The dinner that came with the package was delicious but again I was taken by surprise at changes made by reception again and sadly we missed out on what was probably a great entree. The food, drinks, and service of the restaurant staff was top tier and the atmosphere with live music made for a wonderful valentines day evening. The buffet breakfast the next morning was pleasant but there seemed to be an abundance of flies around the food which was concerning. Aside from the damp room and poor communication from front of house staff I would probably stay at fable again.

My wife and I had the pleasure of staying for 4 nights at the start of our driving tour of North Island. After receiving the warmest of welcomes during the slick check-in we were taken to our luxury king room on the fifth floor. The room was very spacious considering the city centre location. Every feature of the room provided us with the comfort and convenience we appreciate. Breakfast was great - freshly brewed coffee and cooked to order items accompanying a varied buffet started our day in the best possible way. |Every staff member discharged their duties efficiently and our interactions with them were always friendly and helpful.|The hotel is ideally placed for transport by ferry, train and bus. |We would have no hesitation in recommending staying at The Fable.

We had a wonderfull first stay at The Fable and will definitely return. We enjoyed everything about the Hotel and in particular found all the staff polite, helpful and engaging. We stayed on their special family rate with 50% off the second room and they put us in interconnecting rooms which was great. The rooms (Superior King) are well appointed and comfortable with large ensuites - the water pressure in the shower is outstanding! Breakfast was delicious too… We look forward to returning soon

Gripes then good stuff...Gripes are, this in my opinion is not a 5 star hotel, it is on par with the 4 stars, when I see 5 star I expect basic things eg the lamp in room to be straight, the brass in the elevator to be polished daily, and someone to greet you when you arrive and usher you to where you check in and some fragrance in the lobby/check in, none of that here. It is not an accessible building for wheelchairs unless you have someone who can go up the stairs to the check in desk. An odd comment at check in as well around our room booking as we were 2x women, never had that happen before. Quite a bizzare set up. The power plug behind the chair in the room had more sticky dust on it than I cared to see when i pluged the iron in, actually a fire hazard to be fair. No liquid hand soap. There were 2x coffee pods, that is wild to me. Breakfast was lacking, bacon was dry, no replacement of cutlery available of you wanted another dish. All round was just not what I was expecting at all from a buffet breakfast, I was expecting a huge spread with lots of choices but there was absolute minimum. Positives, no extra charge for barister coffee and the bed was one of the most comfortable I have slept in, we must have had a good room possition because there was absolutely no noise which surprised me. Nice selection of teas and enjoyed the sound bar for TV. The spa was lovely and easy to book, enjoyed the ambience in there. Overall, odd little place. Doesn't have the bustle of a hotel, and I appreciate they are going for a elegant high class situation which is quiet and relaxed. Just didn't quite hit that for me. I expected live jazz, people sitting and chatting etc.

We had a fantastic stay and really enjoyed every part of our visit. From the moment we arrived, the check-in was quick, smooth, and welcoming, which made a great first impression. Our room was clean, comfortable, and well looked after, making it easy to relax and enjoy our stay. We also had dinner and breakfast at the hotel’s restaurant, and the food was absolutely delicious. A special shout-out to our waiter, Sam, who made our dining experience even better. He was Kind, and genuinely cared about making sure we had everything we needed. His excellent service really stood out and made us feel well looked after. Overall, everyone we interacted with was welcoming and professional, and the whole experience exceeded our expectations. Thank you to the entire team for making our stay so enjoyable. We would definitely stay here again and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a comfortable stay with fantastic hospitality.

We had the most beautiful experience celebrating our anniversary here! 🥰✨ The food was absolutely beautiful, but what really made our night was the incredible service and hospitality from Umut, the restaurant manager. We had a little fun with our anniversary celebration and I even proposed to my best friend… and she said YES! 💍💕 Umut was so lovely and genuinely got into the spirit of our celebration. He captured the moment for us, made us feel so special, and even surprised us with a complimentary dessert to celebrate. It was such a thoughtful gesture and honestly made the whole experience even more memorable. The food, atmosphere and service were all fantastic, but Umut really went above and beyond. You can tell he genuinely cares about his guests and wants them to have a special experience. Thank you so much, Umut, for helping make our anniversary one we’ll never forget! We’ll definitely be back. ❤️✨

The location is very good and convenient. However, the hotel entrance is quite small, and the reception area is also relatively small. The room was generally clean, but the towels looked outdated. There was also a stain on the bathrobe and another stain on the decorative bed throw at the foot of the bed, which was disappointing for a five-star hotel. The room was on the smaller side—comfortable for one person, though it can feel tight if you have large luggage. Another issue was the room phone. It was visibly dirty and didn’t have any instructions for contacting reception or room service. There were no labels or guidance on which number to dial, so I had to guess, and none of the obvious options worked. Nowadays, even basic hotel phones usually have clear instructions, so this was surprisingly inconvenient. I was disappointed that the room didn’t include basic amenities such as a vanity kit, shower cap, toothbrush, or toothpaste. These are small details, but they’re standard expectations at this level and make a noticeable difference to the overall guest experience. I asked if it would be possible to move to the same room category with a balcony, but the receptionist declined, because I hadn’t booked directly with the hotel, even though I am an Accor Live Limitless (ALL) Classic member. Although I understand the policy, it was still a little disappointing. It also seemed that my room was interconnected with the room next door, as I could clearly hear conversations and other noise from the guests, which affected the overall comfort of my stay. If you’re expecting a nice view, you may want to consider another option. The room mostly overlooks the neighboring building’s air-conditioning units and service pipes, with very little of Queen Street actually visible.
