My valid booking via Booking.com was simply canceled by the hotel because I allegedly did not update my credit card details quickly enough. I had already updated them the day before after the first request to enter new credit card details. Now the hotel is fully booked and I cannot make a new booking. This is clearly a breach of contract, as I had already entered my valid card details twice! The hotel probably just wanted to resell my room to other guests for more money. This is no way to do business and not treat your guests - absolute cheek, this will fall on their feet!

Location is great - right in the main shopping area between the luxury stores. Transport links to major sites and short walk to tourist attractions. Basic hostel rooms, could do with a bit of TLC but for the money not bad at all. Could be cleaner and have better soundproofing but nothing major. Employee was friendly and helpful when we arrived. For a few nights this is a great base for exploring.

Great price for central Barcelona. Standard, minimalist rooms. You get what you pay for. If you have large luggage cases and you arrive when the grand door at the street entrance is closed, you have to lift your luggage through the small door. On sound and noise. You can hear noises of other guests in the corridors. Especially if guests are exuberant and at night it can be difficult to sleep.

There are some great advantages to this hostel, but it’s best to know what to expect. Firstly, the advantages. The situation is unparalleled, nestling between Louis Vuitton and Gucci on Passeig de Gràcia. Handy for Diagonal Metro and Plaça Catalunya as well as the two most important Gaudi buildings. The hostel shares a beautiful period entrance with several other businesses, and reception is on the first floor, accessible by lift or stairs. The staff speak very little English, but are very friendly and amenable and having a smattering of tourist Spanish and Google Translate, it wasn’t a problem. The bed and pillows were comfortable. We had a Juliette balcony with fab view of the city. There was no noise problem. Toiletries were provided on the first day, but I recommend you bring your own. There was a Nespresso machine with two capsules (not replenished - we bought our own at the Nespresso shop), which was a nice touch. |On the downside, our room wasn’t clean. The floor was unmopped and sticky and the sink and toilet had been given a cursory wipe, streaks (hopefully cleaning fluid) still showing. This may have been an exception as it was a bank holiday and they were possibly short staffed. The towels and bath mat were clean but grey and not changed during the three night stay. The sheets were clean but threadbare, very thin in places. The furniture was MDF with (chipped) melamine, but functional. The floor of the shower was cracked and moved underfoot, and with no door on the shower, it was difficult to prevent the bathroom floor from being awash. The room wasn’t serviced during our stay, but the shutters were drawn over in our absence against the sun.

STAY AWAY. DIRTY AND DISGUSTING. REFUSED TO REFUND FOR STAY AFTER NEEDING TO FIND ANOTHER PLACE. Room was so dirty and no one was staffed so we had to leave to get another room. Hair all over sheets and pillows. Mold all over shower. Broken Air conditioning. No wifi working in the room. Shower drain was broken toilet paper holder was broken. We went back the next morning when the desk staff was back and were verbally promised a refund and their apologies. Now they're telling my credit card we left without notifying which is FALSE and they're refusing to give us our money back. I have traveled a lot and have stayed at places that cost $10 a night with better cleanliness and respect than this place. This place was $150 a night and I would rather had slept on the streets than in the room it was so dirty.

Hotel was a great location was the only|Major perk. Upon arrival I was overcharged from what I had originally booked at, person on reception who didn’t speak good English said it was new city tax increase price added. I am 100% sure this should have been communicated before I arrived through booking agent or through email but nothing at all…. * We stayed ‘7 NIGHTS’ tried to communicate all the below but reception didn’t speak English to understand and even tried a translation app to try help….|- the bed linen sheets were not changed once at all for the whole 7 nights! As there were stains on the sheets that was always there. |- the floors were dirty and full of long long hairs (I have a shaven head). So these were obviously from what ever previous guests before. And floor never got brushed once on any room refresh. |- the bathroom was disgusting!! Mould, dirt and not clean. With a toilet wedged between shower and sink you can’t even get up and down. |- the walls are not soundproof at all!! We could here everything from spoken words, to doors closing to someone dropping something from all angles. |- towels I think get washed in-house and not professionally as I had stains and other guests hairs on all the towels. FOR €100 a night we spent €700 total I expected a lot lot better.

My boyfriend and I stayed in Paseo De Gracia for 1 night and it was probably the worst place I have ever stayed. 1. We arrived at the hotel late in the night after flying. I read that there was a 24 hour receptionist at the hotel. We checked into our room and to our astonishment there was no water. We were both so thirsty after our flight. My boyfriend went to ask the receptionist for some water and nobody was there. It was too late in the night to go shopping for water so we had to spend the night thirsty and had a bad sleep because of dehydration. 2. There was no toilet roll provided in the bathroom. I cannot believe that a hostal can not provide the simple necessities like toilet roll. I had to wipe myself using a piece of paper. I felt very primitive. This is absolutely unacceptable service. 3. The bed wasn’t made properly. There was a creased up sheet at the bottom of the bed... I don’t have a clue if it was clean or not but it was covered with duvet. It seems like it had been used before! 4. There was awful mould in the corner of the room which seemed very unsanitary. I understand that you are not a 5 star hotel and I understand that you get what you pay for. However, you expect to have the simple necessities like toilet roll and drinking water when you pay to stay somewhere... especially if you call yourself a 3 star hotel. Do not be deceived by the photos here... do not book!

We had a terrible experience with this "hotel" and cannot recommend it. The air conditioning system broke down, resulting in a horrible first night. The next day management agreed to let us go and charge only one of the three nights we had originally booked. We left the hotel, but now they refuse to make good on their word and refund the other two nights.

Frequently asked questions about Barcelona

When is the best time to visit Barcelona?

The best time to visit is May or June, when temperatures are warm and rain is moderate. September is also pleasant, though it is the rainiest month. July and August are the hottest and driest, with highs around 29°C. Winter months are mild but cooler, with more humidity. Aim for late spring or early autumn for the most comfortable weather.

Which area should I stay in in Barcelona?

For first visits, the Eixample puts you near Gaudí's masterpieces and upscale shopping, with hotels like Majestic and Almanac. The Gothic Quarter suits those wanting medieval streets and nightlife, with Duquesa de Cardona nearby. La Rambla and Plaça de Catalunya offer central convenience, with Olivia Plaza and Kimpton Vividora. For a quieter, residential feel, Sant Gervasi is calm and green, home to Hotel Boutique Mirlo.

What are the must-see attractions in Barcelona?

Start with the Basilica of the Sagrada Familia, Gaudí's unfinished masterpiece and the city's icon. Park Güell offers colorful mosaics and sweeping views. Casa Batlló and La Pedrera showcase his imaginative facades on Passeig de Gràcia. For football fans, Spotify Camp Nou is the home of FC Barcelona. Ciutadella Park is a green escape with a lake and the Arc de Triomf nearby.

What day trips can I take from Barcelona?

You can take full-day tours to Andorra, a small mountain country with duty-free shopping and scenic valleys; Girona, a medieval city with a well-preserved old town; and the Costa Brava, a rugged coastline with coves and beaches. Montserrat, a mountain monastery, is also a popular day trip. These tours cover the destinations in a single day, so you can see them without planning your own transport.

How many days do I need in Barcelona?

Plan 3 to 4 days for Barcelona. In 3 days, you can see the Sagrada Familia, Park Güell, Casa Batlló, La Pedrera, and the Gothic Quarter, plus Montjuïc Castle or Ciutadella Park. Add a fourth day for a day trip to Montserrat, Girona, or the Costa Brava, which needs a full extra day. If you want to include Spotify Camp Nou or Tibidabo, allow a fifth day.
