Response from the property
Dear Zachary, Thank you so much for sharing such a wonderful and thoughtful review. We are truly delighted to hear that you had a marvellous stay and that you enjoyed the unique history and character of The Shelbourne. It is especially rewarding to know that Cian at the front desk made such a positive impression with his kindness and accommodating approach, your praise will most certainly be shared with him, and I know he will be genuinely touched by your words. We are pleased that your room, while cosy, suited you and your wife comfortably, and that the updated bathroom, cleanliness, and overall comfort met your expectations. It’s also lovely to hear that our central location enhanced your ability to explore and enjoy Dublin on foot. To be described as “definitely worth the splurge” and as your first choice should you return to Dublin is truly the highest compliment we could receive. Thank you for choosing The Shelbourne and for taking the time to share your experience. We very much look forward to welcoming you back again in the future. Warm regards, Andrew J. For dining, you have excellent choices right in the hotel. The Saddle Room serves international dishes with local ingredients, while No. 27 The Shelbourne Bar offers cocktails and Irish seafood in a relaxed setting. For a classic Dublin whiskey experience, The Horseshoe Bar is a standout. Just steps away on Grafton Street, you can enjoy the famous Bewley’s cafe or stop in at nearby pubs for a drink. St. Stephen’s Green Shopping Centre is also a short walk for quick bites or snacks.
You are right on St Stephen's Green, a leafy park, with the National Museum of Ireland just a 2-minute walk away. The area is central and walkable, with Grafton Street nearby for shopping and the Molly Malone Statue and Irish Whiskey Museum within an 8-minute stroll. Further along, Dublinia and EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum are about a 15-minute walk, while the Guinness Storehouse is 2.1 km away. Your hotel has its own Bar and Restaurant for dining in, and you can easily explore the city center on foot.
From Dublin Airport, take the Aircoach to the St Stephen's Green stop, which sits across the street from the hotel; it runs about every 20 minutes and takes 30 to 40 minutes. From Pearse Station, you can walk to the hotel in a short time or hop in a quick taxi, with a rank right opposite the entrance. If you arrive by car, follow signs for Dublin city centre and the hotel is at the top of Kildare Street on St Stephen's Green. The hotel is also walkable from the nearby train station, so you'll be settled in no time.
In the evening, the Shelbourne’s own bars are a great start: No. 27 The Shelbourne Bar for cocktails and seafood, The Lord Mayor’s Lounge for afternoon tea, and The Horseshoe Bar for Irish whiskey. Nearby, O’Donoghue’s Bar is a well-known pub with live Irish music each evening. You can also take a short stroll to Temple Bar, an area with shops, galleries, restaurants, and bars. For a cultural option, the National Museum of Ireland is a 2-minute walk away and often hosts evening events. The Molly Malone Statue and Irish Whiskey Museum are both within an 8-minute walk for a relaxed post-dinner wander.
Yes, The Shelbourne is an excellent base for exploring Dublin. You can walk to the National Museum of Ireland in 2 minutes, the Molly Malone Statue and Irish Whiskey Museum in 8 minutes each, Dublinia in 14, EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum in 15, and The Spire in 16. For the Guinness Storehouse at 2.1 km and Collins Barracks at 2.3 km, you'll want a car or a short ride, but most of Dublin's central sights are right on your doorstep.
