Recently, I've been staying at Abbott Lodge. When I arrived, I was Gove a room 129, which is superb! This room was recently re-innovated, with a new clean bathroom and a spacious room. The shoer is easy-to-use and the hot water in the shower is present without minutes of waiting. The only drawback that I've noticed in my room is a lack of a fridge, while there was a kettle with three mugs and spoons, as well as milk and tea bags, which I've found amazing after long journey. Although Dublin 1 is a bit unsafe -- you should watch out -- the location is central, so every city site is around the corner. Of course, you can find plenty of pubs, bars and restaurants nearby, and grocery and other shops, pharmacies and much more. As the Internet has become an indispensable part of our life, WiFi at this hotel is fast, reliable, and easy-to-connect. Overall, it is one of the best deals in Dublin for such an amount of money that you pay.

I stayed here for one night with a friend as we were going out late and it was too late to get home. The place was dirty with stains on every single step of the stairs. The receptionist wasn’t very pleasant. It was cheap but not cheerful. Will not be back. I recommend as a last resort as the location is right in the centre and it did what we needed it to. The room was nice enough with a tv we could watch before going out.

We arrived an hour before check-in and were pleasantly offered a different room so we wouldn’t have to wait. The room was clean, the beds were comfortable, and the hotel is perfectly located right in the city center. The staff were incredibly helpful and had a great sense of humor, which made our stay even more enjoyable. After checking out, we were also able to store our luggage for a few hours, which was very convenient.

great spot for a 1 night stay or if you’re living out of your backpack instead of a suitcase. The room was tiny and I wouldn’t recommend staying here if you’re exploring Dublin with a suitcase for a holiday. If you’re travelling light, then this place is for you!!

staying in room 113, informed them when we arrived about the awful smell coming from the bathroom & the toilet doesn't flush, were on day 2 now still nothing done about it, both parties staying in room have been quiet nausea & sick with the constant odour, and cant use toilet as it doesnt flush..serious health & safety issue & would certainly not recommend this accommodation.. very disappointed with the lack of service & accommodation. will definitely not be returning..

The staff was fantastic and very helpful, the rooms were newly renovated, beds were super comfy, heating was great, very spacious, and had everything we needed. The location is extremely central. We stayed for three nights and would definitely come back.

It's fine if you just need a bed for the night. There are no cooking/eating facilities other than a kettle. It's located in the middle of Dublin which is great, but that's about the only positive. The bathroom looked nice but poor water pressure. Staining on bed linen and curtains (pictured) and the carpets on the stairs need replaced. Some plug sockets were coming off the wall. There is no lift and five floors of narrow stairs so not recommended if you are disabled or older. We had a lovely view of a construction site from our room 🤣

Frequently asked questions about Dublin

When is the best time to visit Dublin?

The best time to visit Dublin is from May to September, when temperatures are mildest, ranging from 15°C to 19°C, and daylight hours are longest. June and July are the most pleasant months, with the warmest weather and lower humidity. October is the rainiest month, with 17 rain days, while July and August also see frequent showers. Spring and early autumn offer a good balance of comfortable weather and fewer crowds.

Which area should I stay in in Dublin?

Stay in Dublin City Center for easy access to sights, dining, and the River Liffey; it suits first-time visitors. Ballsbridge, a leafy residential area south of the center, is quieter and good for families or those wanting a relaxed base. Clontarf, along the coast north of the city, offers a seaside feel and is great for joggers or walkers. The Merrion Hotel and The Shelbourne are in the center, while Herbert Park Hotel is in Ballsbridge.

What are the must-see attractions in Dublin?

Phoenix Park is one of Europe's largest city parks, great for a stroll. Dublin Zoo, inside the park, is a family favorite. Guinness Storehouse tells the story of Ireland's famous stout with a rooftop view. Malahide Castle & Gardens offers a historic estate just north of the city. The National Museum of Ireland covers Irish history and archaeology.

What day trips can I take from Dublin?

Full-day tours from Dublin go to the Cliffs of Moher, often combined with the Wild Atlantic Way and Galway; the Giant's Causeway and Belfast; Glendalough, Wicklow and Kilkenny; and the Blarney Stone, Rock of Cashel and Cahir Castles. Each offers a distinct slice of Ireland, from coastal cliffs to historic castles and countryside.

How many days do I need in Dublin?

Plan 3 days for Dublin itself: one for Phoenix Park and Dublin Zoo, one for Guinness Storehouse and the National Museum of Ireland, and one for Malahide Castle & Gardens plus the city center sights like Molly Malone Statue and The Spire. If you want a day trip to the Cliffs of Moher or Glendalough, add an extra day.
