For a first visit, stay in the Centro Histórico, the city's historic core. It puts you close to the Roman Temple, Cathedral, and Giraldo Square, and suits most travelers. The area around the Aqueduct Água de Prata offers quieter, scenic streets with local atmosphere. MouraSuites Hotel and M'Ar de AR Aqueduto are both in the center, while Hilton Garden Inn Evora is also centrally located.
Start at the Roman Temple of Évora, the city's iconic ruin. The Chapel of Bones offers a unique, reflective sight, while the Cathedral of Évora rewards with grand views. Wander the historic center to soak in the atmosphere, and see the Almendres Cromlech for a remarkable prehistoric monument just outside town.
Full-day tours take you to the Alentejo countryside, visiting a cork factory and a traditional estate, plus a wine tour around Évora's vineyards. You could also venture to the nearby towns of Monsaraz and Arraiolos, known for their medieval castle and famous carpets, respectively.
Plan for 2 days to see the main sights in Évora. On the first day, visit the Roman Temple of Évora, the Cathedral of Évora, and the Chapel of Bones. The second day can cover the Centro Histórico, Giraldo Square Fountain, and the Aqueduct Água de Prata, with time for Jardim Público de Évora. If you want to include the Almendres Cromlech or a wine tour, add an extra day for that trip.
