Response from the property
Hi Helen, sorry to hear about your experience with breakfast. We'll look into why you weren't offered hot foods. On slower mornings we don't cook warm foods in batch, instead making them on demand. Perhaps there was some confusion regarding that. Dried bread should have been thrown out and replaced for sure though. Regarding coffee - we now have a coffee machine for guests to use and enjoy a variety of hot drinks. Best regards Hótel Húsavík management

The hotel has its own restaurant, cafe, and bar, so you can eat on site without going far. For a meal out, Salka Restaurant on the harbor serves local fish and traditional Icelandic dishes. Gamli Baukur, a harbourside pub-restaurant in a converted boathouse, offers burgers, pizza, and fish and chips. Both are a short walk from the hotel, and the harbor is just a stone's throw away. You can also try the Jaja Ding Dong bar next to the hotel for cocktails, local beer, and Icelandic meals.
The hotel sits in the heart of Húsavík, a small fishing town on Skjálfandi Bay known for whale watching. You are a 5-minute walk from the Húsavík Whale Museum and a 7-minute walk from the Geosea geothermal sea baths, which overlook the bay. The town center, harbor, and whale watching fleet are close by, and the hotel itself houses a bar, cafe, and restaurant. The area is part of the Diamond Circle, with the town offering a brewery, swimming pool, and golf course nearby. It is a compact, walkable place to explore.
Fly into Akureyri Airport, about 90 km away, then drive or take a bus to Húsavík. The drive takes just over 50 minutes via the Vaðlaheiði tunnel. From the bus stop in town, the hotel is a short walk to the center. Alternatively, Húsavík Airport is only 8 km away, so a quick taxi or ride-hailing trip gets you there. For a direct option, pre-book a transfer from Akureyri to the hotel.
In the evening, you can head to the hotel's own Jaja Ding Dong bar for cocktails, local beer, and Icelandic meals, all with a fun Eurovision theme. The Geosea - Geothermal Sea Baths are just a 7-minute walk away, where you can soak in warm geothermal seawater with views over Skjálfandi Bay. The Húsavík Whale Museum, a 5-minute walk, offers a chance to see the giant Blue Whale skeleton. The town center and harbor are close by, so you can easily stroll to local spots like Salka Restaurant or Gamli Baukur for a relaxed dinner by the water. The hotel's bar and restaurant are also right there if you prefer to stay in.
Yes, Husavik Cape Hotel is a great base for exploring Húsavík. The Húsavík Whale Museum is just a 5-minute walk away, and Geosea - Geothermal Sea Baths are a 7-minute walk from the hotel. You can easily walk to these top sights without needing transport. The hotel is also in the city center, so you are close to the town's other attractions. For exploring further afield, like the Diamond Circle, you would need a car or bus, but the immediate area is very walkable. It is a convenient spot for a short stay in town.
