Google· 4 months agoMy son and I really enjoyed our stay at The Gate Hotel. The location is excellent, with convenient access to shops, restaurants, nightlife, and public transportation, including both bus and metro stations. The hotel itself is beautiful, clean, and very comfortable. They offer everything you need for the room: toothbrushes, toothpaste, brush, hand cream, razors, shaving cream, pajama sets, slippers, hair dryer, etc. One of the highlights was the bar and lounge area on the third floor, which offers complimentary non-alcoholic beverages such as coffee and tea, snacks, and even free wine during designated hours. It was a wonderful place to relax after a day of sightseeing and chat with other tourists around the fire pit. Most importantly, the hotel staff were exceptionally friendly, welcoming, and helpful throughout our stay. Their outstanding service made our visit even more enjoyable. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend The Gate Hotel to anyone visiting Kyoto.

Google· 2 weeks agoWe stayed at the same hotel chain in Osaka and had an amazing experience, so our expectations were high. Unfortunately, this stay was a huge disappointment, especially for a 5-star hotel. The Standard Hollywood Twin Room was advertised as 26 m², but the actual usable space felt closer to 20 m². The layout was terrible, with barely enough space for one suitcase, let alone two. The wardrobe also had an unpleasant smell. The breakfast buffet offered very limited variety. Overall, this hotel fell far short of 5-star standards and was nowhere near the experience we had in Osaka.

Trip.com· 4 months agoExcellent location — just next to Shijo (四条) and beside the Kamo River (鸭川). I did my morning run along the river and easily completed a 10km round trip. Across the bridge is Gion, and on the opposite main road is Kyoto Takashimaya. All the shopping areas are within easy walking distance.The staff were very friendly, and the hotel is beautifully built on the site of a former primary school, which gives it a unique character. There are two cafés on Level 1 — one of them is the popular Blue Bottle Coffee. There are also two Western dining options on Level 1.Level 8 offers a lovely view and features the front desk, bar, and hotel restaurant, making it a great place to relax.Will definitely come back again!!

Google· 5 months agoOur stay at THE GATE HOTEL Kyoto Takasegawa was honestly one of the highlights of our trip. We stayed in the Cinema King Room and were immediately impressed by how spacious, modern, and comfortable the room was. The bed was also incredibly comfortable, genuinely one of the best beds I’ve slept on in a hotel. Everything was kept impeccably clean throughout our stay, and the housekeeping team did an exceptional job every single day. Fresh sheets, new slippers and pajamas, fully topped-up amenities, and a spotless room every time we returned. The attention to detail was outstanding. The service from reception was phenomenal. Every staff member we interacted with was attentive, caring, professional, and genuinely welcoming, which made the experience feel even more special. The hotel itself is in an incredibly convenient location while still being quiet and relaxing at night. It was the perfect balance after long days exploring Kyoto. The bathtub was also a huge bonus and made it easy to unwind at the end of each day. We’ve stayed at many hotels in Japan, and this was easily one of the most memorable. Would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Kyoto.

The location is perfect: restaurants and shopping centres are just minutes away on foot, and the Gion area is a 10-15 minute walk. We stayed on the seventh floor in a double twin room with a great view of the river.|The breakfast was very good, served in a sunny dining area on the top floor. The beds were especially wonderful, with comfortable pillows and crisp, bright white sheets. We loved it!

Tripadvisor· 3 months agoMy partner and I stayed here for 6 nights in July and overall had a really good experience. The location is fantastic for exploring the city — everything felt within easy reach, and the closest underground station is just a 3-4 minute walk away, which made getting around effortless. The hotel itself is immaculately clean. Our room was spotless throughout the stay, and it was clear a lot of care goes into housekeeping. My one criticism is the breakfast, which felt below the standard you’d expect from a hotel of this quality. Over 6 nights, the menu only offered three options: eggs Benedict, French toast, or a Japanese traditional breakfast. There was a side selection of yogurt, fruit, pastries, and a few small hot items, but the overall offering didn’t quite meet our expectations for the price point. What we found particularly odd was that they don’t advertise having additional egg options. We only found out an omelette was available when we spotted another guest eating one — it was never mentioned on the menu or by staff, which seems like a strange oversight. Overall, this is a very good hotel and we’d happily stay again — just probably without breakfast included next time.

Tripadvisor· 2 months agoExcellent location, set behind one of the busiest shopping streets and very central so everything is walkable, yet with being on the river the setting is very peaceful. Common areas are lovely to lounge in. Loved the library. Staff are not the warmest, which is unusual for Japan. Rooms are tiny, nowhere to open a suitcase, we just had ours open in the middle of everything and had to keep stepping over it. Our room had lots of natural light. Everything was very clean, decor simple and basic. I would stay again, but only if I got a good deal on the room rate as I feel the average prices for a room here are way too expensive ordinarily.

Tripadvisor· a month agoStayed for two nights - Kyoto deserved so much more - and the location is perfect.|Busy hotel with slick baggage drop on ground floor for travellers arriving before 2pm check in time. Returned three hours later and went up to 8th floor to collect keys and bags were already in the rooms. Nice touch.|Room whilst sparkling clean is narrow so not room for two travellers to have both bags in bedroom. Mine had to stay in the hall.|What is disappointing is lack of storage in bedroom. Just one very small wardrobe. No drawers and only one hook in entire room. Badly thought through without consideration of what travellers actually need.|Final disappointment was the loss of my black pjs! Must have become caught up in the bed linen when housekeeping changed the bed… not sure how that happened?! Reported to hotel and I was hugely impressed when my pjs were delivered two days later to our hotel in Shizuoka… not sure that would happen in London!
