It’s not very often that I say a hotel is perfect but The Thousand truly was perfection. I stayed here for 5 nights and the service and hotel were amazing. The location is brilliant - a 2 minute walk across the road to Kyoto train and bus station - not only great for transport but many shops and restaurants located here too. Plenty of other shops and places to eat within a 5-10 minute walk. As soon as you walk into this hotel it has an air of class about it that set it apart from other 5 star hotels I stayed in across my Japan trip. The staff were always very pleasant greeting you and spoke very good English. They also organised my luggage transfer to my next hotel. My room was spacious, had a beautiful comfy bed and was pristine. It was a great space to chill after my busy Kyoto days and a hide away on the rainy days. Other novelties that set this hotel apart was the robot I often saw around the hotel, the in room iPad which could be used to request extra amenities and the Japanese style toilet which was the poshest toilet I’ve ever seen. The only thing I feel they could improve on would be to include the spa facilities as currently guests have to pay extra to use these (I think it was 3000 yen). A hotel of this standard and with such an expensive price tag should be including these facilities not asking guests to pay a considerable extra fee.

The customer service was excellent, everyone was so friendly, helpful, and attentive. We also loved the robot room service; it was such a fun and convenient way to order and receive everything we needed. We used the spa during our stay, and it was absolutely amazing. The Japanese bath was incredibly relaxing, and the massage was wonderful as well. Everything was clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully done. We truly enjoyed every part of our stay and would definitely recommend this hotel!

I recently spent two nights at The Thousand Kyoto and found it to be a remarkable stay, particularly in terms of space and value. Considering the average price per square meter for accommodations in Kyoto, this hotel offers exceptionally generous room sizes compared to its peers. My stay in the Harmony Suite was wonderful, providing ample, well-designed space to truly unwind. The laundry service was also prompt and handled with excellent care. A surprising highlight of the stay was the breakfast. I decided to try the vegetable burger and was thoroughly impressed by how the chef utilized the texture of the eggplant. It was so deeply flavorful and well-crafted that I found myself ordering it both mornings. Regarding location, it sits slightly outside the most congested central areas. For those traveling with a rental car, this is actually a distinct advantage. The parking facilities are spacious and easy to navigate. However, the operational flow could use some refinement: having to walk to the front desk to validate the paid parking ticket every single time we drove out became quite a cumbersome routine. There is also room for improvement regarding the arrival and departure experience. Although I had a significant amount of luggage in my car, the bell staff merely stood by and observed as I loaded and unloaded my bags, without offering assistance. I am unsure if this hands-off approach is a specific policy of the hotel, but for a property of this caliber, a more proactive and attentive luggage service is generally expected. Despite this operational quirk, the genuine warmth of the staff elsewhere was highly appreciated. I would like to specifically express my gratitude to Akira at the front desk, whose kindness and professionalism during check-in set a wonderful tone for the trip. Ultimately, I will remember this hotel fondly for its expansive tranquility, that incredible vegetable burger, and Akira’s gracious hospitality.

We were honestly quite disappointed with our stay, especially considering how expensive the hotel was and that we booked it specifically for our honeymoon. First of all, the room was very underwhelming for a hotel at this price point. It felt quite average and did not give us the luxury experience we were expecting. When we checked in, we were asked which amenities we would need, such as razors and other essentials. We assumed these would then be placed in the room, as you would normally expect from a luxury hotel, but they were not provided unless specifically requested again. We were also surprised that the spa required an additional fee, and there was no pool. The hotel also felt quite far from most places, which made getting around less convenient. The breakfast was genuinely very good and was probably one of the highlights of our stay. However, the service during breakfast was quite slow. There were many empty tables around us that still had dirty plates and dishes left on them, while we were waiting for our food. Overall, we expected much more from a hotel at this price point, especially for our honeymoon. Unfortunately, the experience did not feel as luxurious or special as we had hoped it would be, and we left feeling quite disappointed.

Stayed here in the last week of August. It was extremely well located right behind the Granvia Hotel, which is attached to the marvellous Kyoto Station. Being so easy to find it was a great place to stay as a newcomer to Japan having caught the train from Tokyo. The hotel itself is very beautiful. It has gorgeous modern art installatons that are just so peaceful and beautiful. The room I had was great.. corner room .. the breakfasts in both areas were very lovely. Being next to Kyoto Station meant getting to Tori Gates at 5. 30 am was a breeze and to Nara and Arashiyama also very simple. Also there are numerous great eateries up on the 10th and 11th floor of the very cool Bladerunner-ish Kyoto Station building , with views out to Kyoto tower. I later moved to an area up by Hirashiyama which meant many temples were pretty easy to walk to but as I recall my trip it is the Thousand i recall with much fondness. It is expensive but I totally recommend.

We are highly recommend to stay in this hotel, while the location, room size, cleanliness, design, and service are excellent. Moreover, the breakfast style is enough to choose, you can either enjoy in western or Japanese style breakfast per day. And we have encountered a traffic jam issue when we are coming back from Nara Station, something bad happened and the train was suddenly stopped. So we cannot be able to back to hotel on time for retrieving our packed luggages in room. We called to the hotel and explained this unexpected situation. The staffs show understand and offered free late check out one more hour for us, we know it is not easy to have free late check out at Japan but they did treat us so well. Thank you so much, we appreciated and we will stay in future as well. Thank you!

The hotel is in a convenient location, with the subways very close by. The staff are amazing and extremely attentive and the entire hotel is beautifully designed and upgraded with a lot of technology. The rooms are extremely spacious, well designed and overall very clean. The only call out I had is the decorative pillows that were placed on the bed smelled and were with the clean sheets and sleeping pillows. I would definitely recommend this hotel for anyone staying in Kyoto and will book this again for future trips!

Nice hotel adjoined to another hotel that's easy to confuse it with. The Thousand is very well appointed and decorated. We had a regular room but then upgraded to the suite. I highly recommend it had a private hallway, a large sleeping area, a shower, a deep large bathtub and a private balcony. If you go in July be prepared to be woken up at dawn by sacadas lol. The staff is extremely friendly and accommodating and international. They have a money currency exchange also. It is less than one block from Kyoto train station so it's very convenient if you are traveling with luggage.
