As You Are (Shuhe Ancient Town Store)

The best time to visit Lijiang is from March to May and September to November, when days are mild and rain is less frequent. June through August is the rainiest stretch, with nearly daily showers and high humidity, though temperatures stay pleasant. Winters are dry and sunny but cold at night, with daytime highs around 14-15°C. The Naxi people's Torch Festival in late July is a well-known celebration, but it falls in the wet season.

Stay in the Old Town of Lijiang for the classic maze of canals and Naxi architecture, ideal for first-timers. Shuhe Ancient Town, a quieter neighbor, suits those wanting a more relaxed base. For easy access to the old town's sights, the area around Qiyi Street and South Gate offers convenience. The Bivou Lijiang and Holiday Inn resort are in Shuhe, while Jun Bo Boutique Guesthouse and ANYU Hotel are near the old town's south gate.

The Old Town of Lijiang is a well-preserved ancient town with canals and Naxi architecture. Black Dragon Pool offers clear water and views of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. Tiger Leaping Gorge is a dramatic river canyon. Jade Water Village and Blue Moon Valley are scenic spots near the mountain, with pools and terraces.

From Lijiang, full-day tours head to Shangri-La, where you can see Tibetan monasteries and highland scenery, and to Tiger Leaping Gorge, a dramatic river canyon. Another tour combines Jade Dragon Snow Mountain with Baisha Village, known for its Naxi murals. If you prefer staying closer, a day trip to the Old Town of Lijiang itself is a common option, though it is the main city sight.

Plan 3 to 4 days. In 3 days, you can see the Old Town of Lijiang, Black Dragon Pool, and Jade Water Village, plus a day for Jade Dragon Snow Mountain and Baisha Village. Add a fourth day for a trip to Tiger Leaping Gorge or Shangri-La. If you want to include both, you will need 5 days total.
