We were here for the dining experience. Food was excellent. It was extremely difficult to find a good western cuisine in Shuhe old town but here i must say the food, attentiveness, ambience, everything exceeded my expectation. The staff was attentive and friendly and the food was 5/5. We ordered mushroom pizza and it was meaty & tasty! Perfectly balanced and we couldn’t believe it was cooked by a so called Chinese auntie who runs the kitchen by herself! I’m sure every menu listed is great. Highly recommend to visit the restaurant if you’re missing the taste of western cuisine.

It’s been 9 years since I last visited Lijiang, and this time I brought my friends to Shuhe—and The Bivou Lijiang was our first choice! Right from the moment we stepped in, we felt so welcomed and at home, enjoying homemade buckwheat cake and peanuts, plus drinks infused with garden-grown herbs from their farm right at the doorstep! The entire property is built in harmony with nature, filled with lush greenery and home to two lovely cats, Heimi and Baijiu, who have become part of the Bivou family. Our rooms were super cozy, and we loved our bathroom with a view! The welcome gifts of moisturizer and handmade lip balm were so thoughtful and also came in really handy. We managed to explore Shuhe and Dayan thanks to the hand-drawn maps provided, and really enjoyed the food at the recommended eateries too. We especially loved the buffet breakfast spread (the kaya, Milo, homemade popped black rice, milk kefir, and plum jam are my favorites!), the rice noodle soup, and the rotating Western breakfast 😋 As it was mushroom season, we even bought some fresh mushrooms, and for a small fee, the kitchen Ayi helped prepare and cook a spectacular mushroom feast for us! After a 4-night stay, we left for Shangri-La and Shaxi. Upon returning to The Bivou Lijiang for our final night, the warm welcome and familiarity made us feel like we were returning to our second home ❤️ We’re truly grateful to Hwee Ling and the Bivou team for paying attention to every little detail and going the extra mile to ensure we had a wonderful vacation :) We’re so glad we started and ended our trip at The Bivou Lijiang—a perfect beginning and ending to our Yunnan adventure! We loved our stay so much that we are already planning to bring our families back for future trips!

Its wonderfully curated for peaceful enjoyment with a rustic ambience. There are discrete modern conveniences so one can feel spoilt. A very picturesque farm just outside the cozy cafe and a peaceful stream behind the premises at Jiu Ting Long Tan. One of the best stays I have ever had.

My favourite restaurant in Lijiang so far. The restaurant is surrounded in greenery. The house cats are adorable and interactive. The staffs are polite and friendly. The design of the restaurant provides a pocket of heaven and tranquility in the chaos. Food was well presented and delicately prepared. I wish I can visit the restaurant again.

I first discovered The Bivou as a solo traveler in 2024, and have since returned two or three times with family and friends. The Bivou has a heart and soul you feel the moment you arrive. You'll find thoughtfully curated walking and exploration maps in your room, and these are invaluable, especially for English speakers because such resources in English are scarce. The crew is consistently friendly and accommodating. The menu and drinks are so comforting that I am content to spend lazy afternoons there, simply soaking in the slower pace of life. It has become my sanctuary in Lijiang; I don’t even consider staying anywhere else. Perhaps the most telling sign: during my visits, I’ve met several other repeat guests. When a place inspires that kind of loyalty, you know they’re doing something right!

Restaurant review: Pour over coffee was good, we missed it! Pan fried dumplings are great, our daughter loved pizza. They have baby chairs and some puzzles + drawing books for kids. Brunch menu till 2 pm!

amazing hospitality shown throughout our stay! we truly felt at home from the moment we arrived. the introductory room tour was especially thoughtful and helpful. while many things may seem self-explanatory, having someone patiently explain where to find things and how to operate certain functions made a big difference — particularly for my parents. it gave them confidence and comfort settling into the space. also, the location is unbeatable. it offers the perfect balance — peaceful and away from the overly bustling crowds, yet incredibly convenient for getting to Lijiang Old Town. a leisurely stroll around Shuhe Ancient Town is just what you need to unwind and soak in the charm of the area! breakfast each morning was fantastic — comforting, hearty food that truly warms the soul. most of all, every staff member here is passionate about what they do, and it genuinely shows in the little details and care extended to guests. thank you for making our stay so memorable! ps: the fireworks every night during our stay was an extra bonus! so lucky to have been here during pre lunar new year week! pps: we will be back

We stayed at Bivou for 2 nights and initially had plans to book within Lijiang Old Town — I’m so glad we chose this bnb instead. The bnb is tucked inside Shuhe Ancient Town, charming, and slow in the mornings. The little waterways are so clean you can literally see the grass swaying beneath the surface. We arrived late on the first night around 8pm and were pleasantly surprised to be greeted by Audrey, a fellow Singaporean staff member, and later by Hwee Ling the Singaporean owner. My partner and I both live in Singapore, so it was the last thing we expected to find in Yunnan! The team here is genuinely warm and attentive — we felt so well looked after from the moment we checked-in. The property is full of thoughtful little details. There’s a beautifully curated retail area showcasing local makers, from yak cheese and ham to artisan crafts. As a creative, I really appreciated the storytelling behind the products. Even the practical touches — like heated toilet seats provided in the rooms. The restaurant/café serves a lovely mix of Western and fusion dishes that are foreigner-friendly, alongside local specialties like 米线烧烤, all in a cosy setting with jazz music. I can absolutely see why so many westerners gravitate here (My partner is French and felt right at home.) We enjoy exploring local eateries too, but it was great having both options. Service was consistently excellent and the location is perfect: right inside Shuhe Ancient Town, just a short stroll to shops and food spots. A truly wonderful stay — highly recommend!
