Great location! Well appointed rooms and friendly staff. I only give it 4 out of 5 for the weird bathroom and sinks. But definitely stay here it's a great hotel.

I've just completed three nights at this wonderful hotel. It is in the very best location with spectacular views and amazing staff. Especially Fania on reception. I really could stay here for weeks very happily. Walk out of the hotel entrance and you are immediately in the middle of everything you could want.

The location was perfect for our stay. The staff accommodating. The rooms were representative of the era. We enjoyed their characteristics. Our dedicated staff host for our exclusive area, "Ms Celeste" was superb. She provided us with excellent service throughout our stay from breakfast offerings to room servicing. Her attention to detail, hospitality in provision of service with a warm and inviting personality will ensure our return. The Ascenzo group.

We arrived early and were able to leave our bags while we went to explore the city. The hotel is in a great location in the heart of the city. When we came to check in we were told we couldn’t pay by Amex even though it was the payment method that we stated on Booking.com, the hotel has stickers on the door stating that Amex is accepted! Fortunately we had alternative payment methods. If there was a problem accepting Amex a simple message beforehand would’ve sufficed! Our bags were still in reception when we checked in, from previous experience most hotels would have put them in our room. We had the queen suite which was clean spacious and comfortable. A nice table and chairs, small balcony which overlooked a square but not possible to sit on as it was very small. The room had a large whirlpool bath and a decent bathroom with toiletries and good towels. The air conditioning is fairly noisy. The room was advertised as having tea and coffee in the room, this was not the case only tea bags, we asked at reception for coffee and were told that it wasn’t possible. We were able to get coffee in the morning from the breakfast room between 8-10am but it’s not the same, some instant coffee in the room would be fine! The mini bar had water, couple of beers and crisps when we arrived, only the water was replaced the following day. This hotel could be great it just needs to up its game and pay a bit more attention to detail. The city itself is incredible and like nothing I’ve ever seen before. We did a walking tour which I thoroughly recommend. |If I were to revisit I would probably choose different accommodation.

Interesting experience. Keep in mind that you have to go down stairs to get to the rooms, but it is worth the few calories spent because when you enter the room you feel the traditional energy of Matera. Cave. More of a modern cave room, worth staying in. A big minus was that there was no hot water due to a problem. As for the breakfast - it was nice.

Service at front and staff in general were great. Location is perfect if you looking to explore the sasi and matera in general. The shower was terrible can definitely use an excessive amount of bleach and there was no hot water at night. In the morning there was hot water but there is no middle or hot burn water or frizzing water. Also the stream of the water was very weak. Lastly horrible WI Fi connection.

In total it was a decent hotel, with very friendly personnel, a great host and most of the hotel looks nice. We have some minor downsides - the rooms open up directly into the breakfast area, people have breakfast and may peek into your room. Also the rooms are not amazing when judging on the interior. From my point of view a little bit too expensive, but still nice.

My wife and I stayed here for a few days in August 2015. The hotel is right at the top of Matera and conveniently located within walking distance of the entire old town. The only downside of that is that if you descend into the valley to sample the many outstanding restaurants then you have to allow for quite a few stairs back up to the hotel. Or you may take the view that it's free exercise you'd pay for elsewhere and helps to burn off some of those delicious excess calories you've just been eating and drinking... The room was spotlessly clean, comfortable and stylish but ladies will notice the lack of a dressing table. Our room had a shower but others have baths if you prefer them. A minor complaint is that a table and a couple of chairs would have been appreciated; if located near a window that would have also sorted out the dressing table problem. The room has a fridge and a safe, but the safe is a little small by the latest standards and so we couldn't fit all our cameras and lenses inside and the laptop had to take its chances outside the safe. On the plus side, it's not an easy hotel for strangers to just wander into. They have to pass the front desk which doubles as a coffee and refreshment bar and then get in the single lift, or must enter via the stairs and back door using a resident's key. The hotel has a breakfast room serving a cold buffet, the selection was limited but good quality and there was a member of staff present to attend to our requests for properly boiling water (to make tea) and to keep things clean tidy and replenished. Little things matter: the buffalo mozzarella at the breakfast buffet was absolutely the very finest my wife and I have ever tried, and was served as small hand-knotted pieces which gave it a wonderful texture. The hotel has free wifi but our room (101) was too far from the router to get it. But just after the breakfast area is a small and comfortable lounge area for guests and the signal was fine there. In the few days we were staying we appeared to be the only guests except for one night when signs were seen of one other room having been booked. Only one receptionist spoke English and while we were staying she was there for the afternoon and evening shifts, but the other staff and ourselves still managed to communicate adequately for most things. Very happy with this little gem of a four star hotel and would have no regrets staying there again. And Matera is so wonderful that we really hope to return there at some point for another few days.
