Located outside the historic area. Room was spacious with room to layout 2 suitcases. There is a safe. Nice sized desk that has a light. Bathroom has a lighted shaving mirror but the light didn’t work and the mirror was so loose it wouldn’t stay in the position I needed. The supplied blow dryer is feeble and you have to hold the on button all the time. Combo shower/tub was slippery and the shower head was difficult to use without spraying the toilet next to the tub and the floor. |The nightstands on each side of the bed had a built in USB port but they only work when the bedside lights are on; no overnight charging while you sleep unless you loosen the bulb. The room had a refrigerator/mini bar. |Breakfast was very good- a very large selection of meats cheeses breads cakes cereal etc. multiple coffee options. |Overall a good option for this area

No air conditioning in rooms told off season , open windows. But loud lobby and walkway were right outside window. The strange thing the lobby and restaurant are air conditioned? The card key stopped working and had to get front desk to open door well this was a huge inconvenience for him to walk around hall to open door but he forgot we needed key for electricity so had to go back to same guy and him huffing and puffing about doing what he should of done in first place . The front desk staff were very rude. Bad communication skills. The rooms themselves are clean but beds and pillows are so uncomfortable. Spa too expensive, but was going to try and was booked closed for the next two days. Every one at front desk rude! (3) Granted language was a barrier but basic kindness is universal. The good was the hotel restaurant and the staff there. The huge olive tree in front is also nice.

Obviously for business. Grim reception with no smile. Like an admin in USSR. worn-out rooms with things not working. Far from Matera, needing the car to bet there.

We booked a double room for 120euros. It is an old hotel but it is perfectly renovated (refurbished). The rooms were perfectly clean. Breakfast was not huge, bud definetely with more options than other hotels in Italy, and with good quality. Their pool was very clean. Defintely recomend it.

The room was clean but the heat was controlled at one master switch. When we arrived the room was freezing and we were told it won't turn on until 6:15. What a crazy thing! The garden and ground of the hotel were beautiful but definitely not in walking distance to much of anything. If you are interested in visiting the old town, I would stay near there and not this hotel. The staff were friendly enough and the breakfast was served lazy Susan style. The eggs and bacon were cold. There a nice selection of pastries. They didn't have a normal breakfast setup that would keep the food warm. I wouldn't stay here again.

Hotel del Campo was a good choice for us when visiting Matera. It is located a bit outside of the main old town, so you will need a car or transport to get into there. Luckily we had a hire car and found plenty of parking just outside of the centre of Matera, walking distance to the old town. The hotel itself was nice, quiet and the room was very spacious. The breakfast was good with a nice variety on offer. The big plus was the outdoor pool! It was so nice to jump in and cool off after a hot day sight seeing!

Where can I eat near Hotel Del Campo?

Hotel Del Campo has its own Restaurant Le Spighe and a Snack bar on site, plus a Bar for a drink anytime. For a bite nearby, you can walk a few minutes to Pizzeria I Peucezi or Panegusto, both good local spots. A bit further out, Anima & Core, about a 7-minute walk, is another solid option. For a longer stroll, the hotel's restaurant serves Basilicata specialties right in the garden, which is a pleasant choice as well.

What is the area around Hotel Del Campo like?

The hotel sits in Matera's northern area, right off the SS7 national road, with the Via Gravina bus stop about 350 meters away. It's a short drive or bus ride to the historic Sassi district, roughly 2.5 to 3 kilometers from the main sights like Palombaro lungo and the Cathedral. The immediate surroundings are practical, with a park, a bar, and a restaurant nearby, plus the hotel's own bar, snack bar, and restaurant. For a taste of the city's famous cave churches and stone lanes, you'll head into the center, while the hotel's location keeps things calm and easy to reach by car.

How do I get to Hotel Del Campo from the airport or main train station?

From Bari Palese airport, you can take a direct shuttle bus or a train via Bari Centrale to Matera Centrale, then a taxi for the short ride to the hotel. The nearest railway station is Ferrandina Scalo, with Matera Centrale about 2.2 km from the hotel. If arriving by car, the hotel is 150 m from the Via Gravina junction on national road S.S.7 influenced. A pre-booked transfer or ride-hailing from the airport is also a straightforward option.

What's there to do near Hotel Del Campo in the evening?

For an evening out, start at the hotel's own Bar, Snack bar, or Restaurant, where you can enjoy a relaxed drink or meal. Nearby, Pizzeria I Peucezi, just a few steps away, and Panegusto, a short walk, are both good options for dinner. To see Matera's historic heart after dark, the Sassi are about 2.5 to 3 km away, a quick drive or a pleasant 30 to 40 minute walk. The Matera by Night tour with a visit to a Cave House lets you experience the illuminated ancient city, and your hotel can arrange your ride there.

Is Hotel Del Campo a good base for exploring Matera?

Yes, Hotel Del Campo works well as a base, especially if you have a car or use the local bus. The main sights, like Palombaro lungo and the Church of Saint Peter 'Barisano', are about 2.5 km away, a pleasant walk or short ride. Castello Tramontano and the Cathedral are just a bit further at 2.7–2.8 kmchers. Since the hotel sits near the SS7 road, driving into the historic center takes a few minutes, and parking is available. For those without a car, the Via Gravina bus stop is 350 meters away, connecting you to the Sassi area. It is a convenient starting point for day trips, with the hotel itself offering a restaurant and bar for easy meals.
