Writing ⭐ 1 STAR – THE WORST PLACE I HAVE EVER STAYED! At $124 a night, I knew we were booking budget accommodation. I wasn't expecting the Ritz, but I certainly wasn't expecting what we walked into either! The photos on their website painted a completely different picture. The rooms on their website looked clean, tidy and presentable, which is exactly why I booked. Unfortunately, the reality was NOTHING like the photos! So, what did we get for our $124? A mouldy bathroom, filthy shower, dust that looked like it hadn't been disturbed since the dawn of time, dead flies, a door handle falling off, fingerprints all over the mirror, broken furniture, a crusty TV screen and spiders! And the customer service? Well, that was practically nonexistent too! We went looking for someone to raise our concerns, but there was nobody around. There's budget accommodation, and then there's this! I don't expect luxury for $124, but I DO expect basic cleanliness, functioning furniture and accommodation that resembles what's being advertised. Cheap does NOT have to mean filthy! The condition of this room was absolutely disgraceful. In my opinion, it raises serious hygiene and safety concerns, and the property needs an urgent inspection. DO NOT STAY HERE! Save your money, your sanity and potentially your health. An absolutely disgusting experience. NEVER AGAIN!

DO NOT STAY HERE!!! I honestly regret booking this hotel. This experience taught me to always read reviews before making a reservation. I was in a rush because I had an important exam to take, so I booked this place simply because it was the closest to my exam venue. This was one of the most disappointing hotel experiences I’ve ever had. The biggest issue was security. Homeless individuals were able to enter the property as if there was no security at all. From around 10:00 p.m. until 8:00 a.m., I could smell marijuana throughout the night. The next morning, I discovered that a homeless person had been sleeping directly outside my room. Imagine how frightening that was, especially as a solo female traveler. When I reported this to the management, including the owner, Stella Zhang, I expected at least an apology. Instead, she told me that the homeless person was “by the pillar,” not directly in front of my door, as if that somehow made the situation acceptable. She showed no empathy or concern for how unsafe I felt. When I asked for compensation because of the security issue and the distress it caused, she refused. Her reason was that I had still managed to sleep that night, so she believed there was nothing to compensate. I found that response completely unacceptable. She also claimed that homeless people can enter because the building is old. However, even the front desk staff and other employees did not seem to agree with her explanation. To make matters worse, I was told that if I contacted them for what they considered a “non-emergency,” I could be charged AUD $200. That was shocking. This hotel should take guest safety much more seriously. Families stay here, as do solo travelers like me. This is not about judging homeless people—it’s about basic guest safety. You never know what could happen, and no guest should have to open their door in the morning to find someone sleeping outside their room. The room itself was also very different from the photos advertised online. It was extremely dirty and poorly maintained, which made the stay even more disappointing. Please think twice before booking this hotel. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend it due to the serious safety concerns, poor cleanliness, and the management’s lack of accountability and customer care.

The location was good and the accommodation provided all the basic necessities. However, the entrance and the overall appearance of the building felt quite uninviting and somewhat unsafe.Cleanliness was a major issue during our stay. The bathtub and other areas were not properly cleaned, which was disappointing. While it may be acceptable for a short one-night stay on a tight budget, I would not recommend it for a longer stay due to the cleanliness and overall condition of the property.

This property was filthy.|The carpet had not been vacuumed in months, there was dried milk sprayed on the tv, thick dust and every surface was sticky and dirty. |Furniture was broken and pictures covering holes in the walls.|The entrance and lift had graffiti and exposed wiring hanging out of the lift.|This place should be shut down.

I stayed here for 4 nights and unfortunately it was a very disappointing experience. The room was never serviced during my entire stay. No one came to clean the room, replace the toilet paper or restock basic amenities like shampoo and soap. For a stay of several days, I would expect at least some level of housekeeping. The hotel itself feels very old and poorly maintained. The carpets have a strong damp smell which is noticeable as soon as you enter the building. The bed in my room even had a broken leg making it uncomfortable to sleep on. I reported the issue, but nothing was done about it during my stay. The location may be convenient, but the lack of cleanliness, maintenance, and attention to guests really affected my experience. I wouldn't stay here again and hope the management takes these issues seriously.

An unforgettable experience, unfortunately. If you’ve ever wondered what happens when cleanliness and fire safety become optional extras, City Square Motel might have the answer. Our room featured suspiciously mouldy-looking bathroom grout, dirty walls, complimentary mystery hairs and, my personal favourite, a smoke alarm wearing a plastic bag as a shower cap. We were offered another room, but after that first impression, we decided we’d rather sleep literally anywhere else. On the bright side, Melbourne has plenty of other accommodation options. I’d strongly suggest exploring them.

We had an absolutely horrible experience staying in this accommodation this week. The place advertises available parking, but this is untrue. In fineprint they mention that parking is available at car garages nearby. Completely ridiculous as we would not have booked here if they were transparent about this issue from the start. And the rooms and corridors themselves were in horrible condition. The carpets on the hallways reek of bad smell and look like they desperately need to be changed. Despite advertising the motel as a smoke free environment the whole building reeked of smoke and dampness. Inside the rooms the door didn't have a lock. There was a chain lock that weakly kept the door "locked". We felt unsafe for the whole night. The bathroom and kitchen didn't have a door separating them which is completely unhygienic. Even the door separating the room from the kitchen and bathroom didn't have a lock. The powerpoints were also quite flimsy so we were scared there would be a power outrage or potentially get electrocuted. And the wifi did not work as advertised. Overall, I would avoid this place at all costs and spend a few more dollars at other places. A completely waste of money, and despite the cheap prices, you do not get what you pay for. By paying for parking at the carpark, you might as well book an expensive hotel. Complete scam and a waste of your time and money. Made our whole holiday experience absolutely horrible. Please do not make the same mistake.

Absolutely disgusting experience. Do NOT stay here under any circumstances. I have never felt so unsafe and frustrated at a hotel. There were constant issues with security, and it felt like anyone could enter the property. My room and belongings were not properly protected, and the entire experience left me feeling stressed and violated. The management was unhelpful, dismissive, and seemed completely uninterested in addressing serious concerns. Instead of providing a safe and comfortable stay, they created an environment where guests are left to deal with problems on their own. The property was poorly maintained, chaotic, and far below any reasonable standard. What should have been a relaxing stay turned into a nightmare. My belongings were damaged, my peace of mind was ruined, and I regretted booking this place from the moment I arrived. Save your money, protect your belongings, and stay somewhere else. This was one of the worst hotel experiences I have ever had, and I would never return or recommend it to anyone.
