Miztli Lodge & Adventure

The best time to visit is December through April, the dry season, with sunny days and cooler nights. May to November brings frequent rain, especially September and October, the wettest months. The transition months of May and November offer fewer crowds and lush greenery, though rain is likely. The Monteverde Cloud Forest is misty year-round, so pack layers regardless of when you go.

Stay in Santa Elena for the main shops, restaurants, and bus connections, or Cerro Plano for a quieter, more scenic setting closer to the cloud forest reserves. The Monteverde area itself is spread out, so pick a base near your planned activities. Hotel Heliconia and Camino Verde B&B are in Santa Elena, while Senda Monteverde and Hotel & Spa Poco a Poco are in Cerro Plano.

The Monteverde Cloud Forest Biological Preserve is the top must-see, with its misty trails and rich biodiversity. Selvatura Adventure Park offers hanging bridges and ziplines through the canopy. Treetopia Park provides a mix of adventure and nature experiences. 100% Aventura is known for its thrilling zipline courses. Cataratas El Tigre features waterfalls and forest trails.

The full-day tours from Monteverde go to Selvatura Adventure Park, where you can zipline and walk hanging bridges, and the Monteverde Cloud Forest Biological Preserve, a guided tour through the cloud forest. Both are within the Monteverde area itself, so for a true day trip, consider the nearby Santa Elena Cloud Forest Reserve or the town of Santa Elena for local culture. These are well-known options from general knowledge.

Plan 3 days: one for the Monteverde Cloud Forest Biological Preserve and Santa Elena Reserve, one for Selvatura Adventure Park or Treetopia Park plus a night walk, and one for Cataratas El Tigre or the butterfly gardens. If you add a full-day tour like the Selvatura combo, make it 4 days. Two days feels rushed for the main sights and trails.
