Lofts du Vieux-Port by Gray Collection

The best time to visit Montreal is from late May through September, when temperatures are mild to warm, with June to August averaging 23-25°C. September is especially pleasant, with fewer rain days (8) and comfortable highs of 20°C. Winters are cold and snowy, while November and December are the rainiest months, so plan for indoor activities then. The famous Just for Laughs festival in July is a well-known draw, but the weather is the main reason to aim for summer.

Stay in Old Montreal for historic charm and easy access to the port, ideal for first-timers. Downtown Montreal suits those wanting central convenience, with many hotels and dining options. The Plateau, near Mount Royal Park and La Fontaine Park, is great for a local, residential feel. The Golden Mile offers upscale surroundings near Sherbrooke Street.

Start at Vieux-Port de Montréal for the waterfront and Old Montreal atmosphere. Mount Royal Park offers the Kondiaronk Belvedere lookout over the city. The Jardin botanique de Montréal is a large, varied garden complex. Montreal Biodome lets you walk through replicas of North American ecosystems. La Fontaine Park is a pleasant urban green space for a stroll.

Day trips from Montreal go to Quebec City, a historic walled city with landmarks like Chateau Frontenac and Old Quebec, and Montmorency Falls, a dramatic waterfall just outside the city. These full-day tours typically combine both destinations, offering a chance to explore Quebec's capital and its scenic surroundings in one outing.

Plan 3 to 4 days. In 3 days, you can see the Vieux-Port, Mount Royal Park, the Jardin botanique, and the Biodome. Add a fourth day for La Fontaine Park and the Biosphere. If you take a day trip to Quebec City, add an extra day.
