For dining right at the hotel, try Palmen Restaurant, Grand Café, the Othilia lobby bar, or the Eight rooftop bar for drinks and views. Just around the corner, Brasserie France offers French bistro cooking, and Statholdergaarden, a Michelin-starred spot, is a 10-minute walk away. The hotel's own restaurants and bars cover you for meals and evening drinks, while the waterfront restaurants and bars are about a 10-minute walk toward the Oslofjord.
The hotel sits on Karl Johans gate, Oslo's main parade street, in the very center. Within a five-minute walk you have the Historical Museum and Oslo Cathedral, and the National Museum is eight minutes away. Akershus Fortress is nine minutes on foot, and the Oslo Opera House is a 13-minute walk. The Royal Palace and Parliament are also right nearby, and several shopping centers like Eger Karl Johan, Paleet, Steen & Strøm, and GlasMagasinet are within a five-minute walk. It is a central, walkable base with the city's key landmarks all around.
Arriving from Oslo Airport Gardermoen, take the Airport Express train to Nationaltheatret station, a five-minute walk from the hotel along Karl Johans gate. Nationaltheatret also connects to the city’s tram, bus and underground lines. If you come from the main Oslo station, you can walk about 15 minutes or transfer to Nationaltheatret. A taxi or ride-hailing service from the airport takes around 50 minutes for the 50-kilometre drive. For Sandefjord Airport Torp, the Torp Expressen bus ends at Oslo Bus Terminal, from where you can take a short taxi or tram ride.
After dinner, head to the Eight rooftop bar for panoramic Oslo views over cocktails. The lobby bar Othilia offers a relaxed lounge. For a walk, Akershus Fortress is nine minutes on foot and Oslo Opera House thirteen, both nice in the evening. The area around Karl Johan has many bars and restaurants. Use the hotel's Palmen for a classic dinner first.
Grand Hotel Oslo is a great base for exploring Oslo, with most key sights within a short walk. The Historical Museum and Oslo Cathedral are each a 5-minute walk, the National Museum is 8 minutes, and Akershus Fortress is 9 minutes away. The Oslo Opera House is a 13-minute walk, and the Munch museum is 15 minutes on foot. Frognerseteren Park and the Fram Museum are further out at 2.1 km and 2.5 km, so you will want to take a tram or bus to reach those. For everything in the city center, you can simply step out the door and start sightseeing.
