The best time to visit Perth is from November to March, when days are warm and sunny with little rain. April and October are also pleasant, with mild temperatures and fewer crowds. The rainiest stretch is June through August, which is also the coolest, so plan around those months if you prefer dry weather.
Stay in Perth City Centre for easy access to the river, Kings Park, and most sights; it suits first-timers and those who like walking. East Perth, near the Swan River, is quieter and good for families, with the Hyatt Regency Perth there. West Perth offers a more relaxed, residential feel, close to the city, and is a good pick for a calmer stay. Burswood, across the river, is ideal for those wanting the Crown Towers and its entertainment complex.
Kings Park and Botanic Garden offers sweeping city and river views with native bushland. Elizabeth Quay is a lively waterfront precinct with public art and ferry access. Fremantle Prison, a UNESCO-listed site, reveals convict-era history. The Bell Tower houses historic bells with Swan River views. The Perth Mint showcases Australia's gold heritage with live demonstrations.
You can take full-day tours to Rottnest Island for its beaches and quokkas, the Pinnacles Desert for its limestone formations, the Swan Valley for wineries and river views, and Wave Rock for the granite formation and Aboriginal culture. These tours cover the main day-trip destinations from Perth.
Plan 3 to 4 days in Perth. In 3 days, you can see Kings Park and Botanic Garden, Elizabeth Quay, the Bell Tower, and the Perth Mint, plus a day at Hillarys Boat Harbour or Whiteman Park. Add a fourth day for a trip to Rottnest Island or Fremantle Prison, which needs an extra day. If you want to include a full-day tour like the Pinnacles Desert, plan 5 days total.
