The property was in a good location, clean and easy to use the codes given. Except for the fact that one of the rooms had a broken wind which was taped but not properly as the cold air was still going into the room. Luckily the apartment was well heated. However, I feel that we should have been advised beforehand and the window should have been better taped up or fixed before we arrived.

Great location with parking for our rental - not many spaces so may not be available for late checkin. I never did get the email with check in instructions. Property owner did not respond to any messages or questions I sent through my booking app (Expedia) and I finally had to message Expedia to get in to with with host to send instructions. Was a challenge for a bit . Room was smaller than I thought had booked but ok for one night .

Before arrival, I received an email about the payment, I tried to contact them but no reply. After checking in, we found the overall condition of the room a bit old, radiator in the living room didn’t work. The worst thing was after we turned on tap and shower, very strong odor came out from the bathroom and the situation didn’t get better until 2-3 hours after we took the shower. For the rest of the stay, we tried not to use the tap and the shower. After checking the comments from other reviews I am not the only one to mention this issue, if the situation doesn’t improve don’t stay in this hotel.

The apartment itself is fine, very convenient to a city bus stop, and there’s a nice little mall with food and shops nearby. The desk isn’t staffed, so you really are on your own. All the information for check-in was provided, but I never ever saw the manager even though they said they’d be there at the time I arrived. Some other guests showed me how to retrieve the key, and how to find my room. I prefer a place with human staff.

The fan in the bathroom is way too noisy and it's never turned off even the lighting is off. The entire night it's been noisy.

Frequently asked questions about Reykjavik

When is the best time to visit Reykjavik?

The best time to visit is June through August, when temperatures reach 13°C and daylight is long, making it ideal for exploring. May and September are also pleasant, with milder weather and fewer crowds. The rainiest stretch is May, with 19 rain days, while winter months from November to March are cold and dark, though they offer chances to see the northern lights.

Which area should I stay in in Reykjavik?

Stay in the city center for easy access to sights, restaurants, and the harbor. It suits first-timers and those who want to walk everywhere. The Laugavegur area, the main shopping street, is lively and convenient. For a quieter stay, the area around the old town near the lake is calm and close to museums. Hotels like Reykjavik Residence Apartment Hotel and Canopy by Hilton Reykjavik City Centre are in the center.

What are the must-see attractions in Reykjavik?

Start at Hallgrimskirkja, the iconic church with sweeping city views. Walk down Skólavörðustígur Rainbow Street to the Sun Voyager sculpture by the sea. Perlan offers a glass dome and exhibits on Iceland's nature. For a quirky stop, the Icelandic Phallological Museum is unique. If weather turns, FlyOver Iceland gives a cinematic flight over landscapes.

What day trips can I take from Reykjavik?

You can take full-day tours to the South Coast, with its waterfalls and black beach; the Golden Circle, covering geysers, Gullfoss, and a volcano crater; the Snaefellsnes Peninsula, known for its varied landscapes; and Langjökull, for an ice cave experience. These tours return to Reykjavik the same day.

How many days do I need in Reykjavik?

Plan 3 to 4 days for Reykjavik itself. In that time you can see Hallgrimskirkja, Perlan, Sun Voyager, and the Settlement Exhibition, plus walk Skólavörðustígur Rainbow Street. If you add a full-day tour like the Golden Circle or South Coast, give yourself an extra day. Two days feels rushed for the city sights alone.
