We were pleasantly surprised with our stay! My husband and I decided to do a last minute trip to Rotorua. The night before we spent hours looking for a hotel. We were looking at the bigger hotels but all the reviews were bad and the prices were high. We were only planning to stay one night so we took our chances on a cheap motel. We figured we could do one night somewhere not as nice for the price. We were so surprised when we entered our room and it was really clean and comfortable. We would have happily stayed extra nights if we had time. We were traveling with our daughter and the owners were so sweet to make a little bed for her. They also let us take pool towels on our day trip to the spring pools. Parking is free, I’ve read the hotels nearby charge. The only downside is that the bathrooms are outdated but they are clean.

Clean, comfortable, spacious motel on the southern fringe of the Rotorua CBD. We stayed in a well appointed one bedroom unit with two single beds in the living area and a separate bedroom with a king bed plus a bathroom, dining area and kitchen. Steve and Sue, the owners are genuine, warm and welcoming. For a traditional, quality Kiwi motel experience, the Rotorua Motel is recommended! Call to get a 'book direct' special price.

I enjoy my stay at Rotorua Motel. The room was clean and well-equipped. It had complete towels, a fan, heater, hair blower, and a small table and chair. There was also a small bed suitable for a child aside from a double bed. The mini kitchen was very convenient, with utensils available for cooking meals. The toilet and bath were clean and fully functional, with shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel provided. Overall, a comfortable and pleasant stay.

No windows to open for air only sliding door, would have been great as was very hot and stuffy during the night. Shower had low pressure. Alot of insects in bathroom not sure how they got in. For the price was not worth it. Beds very comfortable. Why was there a parking charge have never experienced that charge anywhere. Wouldnt stay there again.

Stayed for 1 night with our 2 grand daughters. We had a one bedroom apartment. What an awesome motel. The single beds were king size and our bed was super comfy. Very clean and couldn't fault anything. The owner was very nice also. The road traffic didn't bother us. Big thumbs up to the owners and cleaners. It may be a bit old but was sooo clean and comfortable 👍👍. We would definitely stay again Thank you Uru Deam 🙂

Bar And Grill is also close. Le Café de Paris and Scope Cafe Rotorua are other nearby choices. The Kurious Kiwi Restaurant & Bar is about 0.4 miles away. For more variety, the city centre is just a short walk, where you'll find many restaurants and cafés.

What is the area around Rotorua Motel like?

The motel sits on Malfroy Road, a short walk from Rotorua's city centre, with the Arawa Superette and an ATM nearby for everyday needs. Within a 13 to 16 minute walk you can reach Kuirau Park's geothermal mud pools and the Government Gardens, while Polynesian Spa is an 11 minute stroll away. The area is walkable, with restaurants and cafés within a kilometre, including El Mexicano Zapata Express and Le Café de Paris. For further exploration, Whakarewarewa – The Living Maori Village is a 24 minute walk, and Te Puia is 2.1 km away. The city's flat streets and footpaths make it easy to get around on foot or by bus.

How do I get to Rotorua Motel from the airport or main train station?

From Rotorua Regional Airport, the motel is about 6.8 km away. A taxi or ride-hailing service will get you there directly, and the city centre is roughly a 10-minute drive from the airport. The CityRide bus (Route 10) runs between the airport and downtown Rotorua, from where the motel is a short walk. The motel is about 0.9 km from the city centre, so once you are downtown, it is easy to reach on foot. There is no train station in Rotorua, so the airport is your main arrival point.

In the evening, you can walk 11 minutes to Polynesian Spa for a relaxing soak, or 13 minutes to Kuirau Park to see its geothermal mud pools. The Rotorua Night Market, about 0.9 km away, offers local food stalls and live music. The hotel's own restaurant serves dinner, and nearby Eat Street on Tutanekai Street has restaurants and bars. For a cultural evening, consider the Te Puia: Te Pō Indigenous Evening Experience with Dinner, or the Mitai Maori Village Cultural Experience.

Is Rotorua Motel a good base for exploring Rotorua?

Rotorua Motel is a solid base for exploring the city on foot. You can walk to Polynesian Spa in 11 minutes, Kuirau Park in 13, and Government Gardens in 16. Whakarewarewa - The Living Maori Village is a 24-minute walk, while Te Puia, the Redwoods Treewalk, and Rotorua Canopy Tours are 2.1 to 4.4 km away, so you'll want a car or a short ride for those. The motel's own restaurant covers meals, and the city centre is about a 5-minute walk for more options. For farther sights like Wai-O-Tapu, a tour or shuttle is the way to go.
