Guesthouse Arctic Heart

The best time to visit Rovaniemi is from June to August, when temperatures are mildest, ranging from 18°C to 21°C, and daylight is long. For winter activities and the chance to see the Northern Lights, December through March offers snowy landscapes, though it is cold and dark. May and September are pleasant shoulder months with fewer crowds, but expect cooler weather and more rain in September. The rainiest stretch is August through October, with up to 15 rain days per month.

Stay in the city center for easy access to restaurants, shops, and the Arktikum museum. The Ounasvaara area suits those who want nature and outdoor activities, with hotels like Lapland Hotels Sky Ounasvaara. For a Santa-themed stay, the Syvasenvaara area near Santa Claus Village offers glass igloos and treehouse hotels, such as Glass Resort and Arctic TreeHouse Hotel. Each area has its own character, so pick based on whether you prefer urban convenience, hillside views, or the Arctic Circle atmosphere.

Santa Claus Village is the top draw, with the Santa Claus Office and Arctic Circle Husky Park nearby. Arktikum offers a clear look at Arctic nature and history. Culture House Korundi showcases art and music in a former post office. Lordi's Square is the central gathering spot in town. Tiedekeskus Pilke explains Finnish forests in an interactive way.

Full-day tours head to Korouoma Canyon for frozen waterfalls and a BBQ, and to Riisitunturi for a snow monster winter hike with lunch. You can also join a husky and reindeer experience with snowmobiling, or a safari with an aurora BBQ. These trips explore the snowy landscapes around Rovaniemi.

Plan 2 to 3 days for Rovaniemi. In two days, you can visit Santa Claus Village, the Arktikum museum, and Lordi's Square, plus try a husky or reindeer experience. Add a third day for a full-day tour like the Korouoma Canyon or Riisitunturi hike, which needs an extra day. If you want to see the Northern Lights, allow at least one more night.
