The best time to visit Rovinj is from June to September, when days are warm and sunny, with July and August peaking at 30°C and low humidity. May and October are pleasant but rainier, while November through March are cooler and wetter. For the driest, most comfortable weather, aim for June or September, which balance warmth with fewer rain days.
Stay in the Old Town for the historic core, with St. Euphemia’s Church, Balbi’s Arch, and the harbor nearby; it suits first-timers and those who want to walk everywhere. The area around the marina and the southern edge of the peninsula offers quieter streets and easy access to the waterfront. For a resort feel, the Monsena area, where Maistra Select Family Hotel Amarin is located, works well for families. The Zlatni Rt park forest is a short walk from the Old Town, ideal for nature lovers.
Start at St. Euphemia's Church, the hilltop landmark with sweeping views. Wander Stari Grad, the old town's maze of stone lanes. Pass under Balbi's Arch, the historic gateway. For greenery and sea views, walk the trails of Park forest Zlatni Rt, also called Golden Cape. Plaža Balota is a rocky swimming spot close to town.
From Rovinj, you can take a full-day tour to Postojna Cave and Predjama Castle, a dramatic cave system and a cliffside castle. Another option is a tour of Istria's inland towns, including Motovun and Grožnjan, known for their hilltop settings and art galleries. A half-day trip to Grožnjan and Oprtalj offers a taste of local delicacies. These tours cover the Istrian peninsula and nearby Slovenia, not the city itself.
Plan 2 to 3 days in Rovinj. In two days, you can see St. Euphemia's Church, wander Stari Grad, pass under Balbi's Arch, and relax at Park forest Zlatni Rt or Golden Cape. Add a third day for a slower pace, including Plaža Balota and the Panorama viewpoint. If you take a full-day tour to Motovun, Grožnjan, or Postojna Cave, add an extra day.
