The best time to visit is May, June, or September, when days are warm and sunny with little rain. July and August are the hottest and driest months, with highs around 30°C and almost no rain. The rainiest stretch is December through February, with up to nine rain days a month. Spring and autumn are more pleasant for exploring the sights without the peak heat.

Fira is the main town, best for first-timers who want easy access to restaurants, shops, and bus connections. Oia suits those seeking the famous sunset views and a more romantic setting. Kamari, with its beachfront promenade, is a good pick for a relaxed stay by the sea. Pyrgos offers a quieter, more traditional village feel inland. The featured hotels Anna Traditional Apartments in Kamari, Charisma Suites in Oia, and Golden Star in Fira are located in these areas.

Start with the Castle of Oia for its iconic sunset views over the caldera. Akrotiri is a well-preserved Bronze Age settlement, and the nearby Akrotiri Lighthouse offers sweeping sea views. Skaros Rock is a dramatic hike with historic ruins, while Ancient Thera sits high on a ridge with ruins and panoramas. The Heart of Santorini is a natural rock formation shaped like a heart, and White Beach is a striking cove with pale pebbles and cliffs.

The full-day tours from Santorini go to the caldera, including the volcano, hot springs, and the island of Thirassia. The volcano and hot springs are the main draw, and Thirassia offers a quieter, more traditional island feel. These trips are a good way to see the caldera from the water and explore beyond the main towns.

Plan 3 to 4 days. In 3 days, you can see the Castle of Oia, Akrotiri, Ancient Thera, and Skaros Rock, plus wander Fira and Kamari. Add a fourth day for a caldera cruise to the volcano, hot springs, and Thirassia, or to relax on a beach. If you want to include a full-day tour, add an extra day.
