The best time to visit Sanya is from November to March, when rain is scarce and temperatures are mild, with highs around 24-28°C and lows near 18-22°C. December and January are the driest and most pleasant months, with only 2-3 rain days and lower humidity. From May to October, expect frequent rain and high humidity, with June through August being the hottest and wettest stretch. April and October are transitional, with more rain but still warm weather.
Dadonghai is the most convenient area, close to the city center and with a wide range of hotels like the Shanhaitian Resort and the JW Marriott. Sanya Bay offers a long beach and sunset views, with the Pullman Oceanview as a good option. Yalong Bay is a more secluded resort area with calm waters, home to the Pullman Yalong Bay Villas. Haitang Bay is newer and quieter, with large resorts like the Grand Hyatt and Westin.
Luhuitou Park offers panoramic views of Sanya Bay and the city, with a famous deer statue and sunset vistas. 天涯海角, or Tianya Haijiao, is a scenic coastal area with iconic rocks and beaches, symbolizing the edge of the earth in Chinese culture. These are the two most-reviewed sights, and both are worth visiting for their natural beauty and cultural significance.
Full-day tours from Sanya go to Nanshan Temple, a large Buddhist complex with a towering Guanyin statue, and Tianyahaijiao, the famous beach with the landmark rocks. Wuzhizhou Islet offers clear water and snorkeling, while Yanoda Tropical Rain Forest Park has jungle trails and waterfalls. The Li Minority Culture Park shows local ethnic traditions. A scooter and hiking trip explores the rainforest inland.
Plan 4 to 5 days. Spend 2 days on the beaches and Dadonghai or Yalong Bay, plus a day for Luhuitou Park and 天涯海角. Add a day for a trip to Wuzhizhou Islet or Yanoda Tropical Rain Forest Park, which needs an extra day beyond the main sights.
