This is such a wonderful place to stay. It’s very central, but as an onsen ryokan, it’s a very peaceful place to sleep, eat, bath, and relax. The food in the restaurant is incredible! The breakfast is so delicious and beautiful, and the dinner was flavorful and exquisite, exceeding my high expectations for Hokkaido cuisine. The onsen is lovely, with indoor and outdoor baths as well as a sauna. The rooms are very well designed but will quickly get overwhelmed if you’re traveling with a couple of giant suitcases. If you’re staying here for a only 1-3 nights, my suggestion is to only bring a small bag for those nights, and either ship your large luggage to the next hotel or leave it in a locker at the station.

We had recently spent two wonderful nights at the Yuen Sapporo Ryokan Hotel. Our room was on the 8th floor. The entrance area to our room was a little tight as we had two big luggage bags. The bed was on a tatami matt floor, and a low coffee table with two chairs (without legs, more like a body rest than a chair) next to the windows. Our room has high floor to ceiling glass windows which brought in lots of natural light and views to the greenery at the Hokkaido University Botanical Garden. The bed was comfortable, the shower, wifi all worked well. We had one breakfast during our stay: a Japanese multi course breakfast which we thoroughly enjoyed. The self service washing machine was a big plus. Staff are friendly and helpful. One thing to note: if you are driving, even though the hotel is located at a prominent street corner, there is no prominent signage on the exterior of the building (which I expect). We circled around the block twice to double check that it’s the hotel and we looked really hard to find the car park entrance. Also note that they are strict on the check in time. We arrived at 1.00pm, we could not use the hotel’s car park until the check in time, ie 3.00pm. So we decided to visit the Sapporo Beer Museum before checking in. The location is quite central. We walked a lot and took the Sapporo subway. We were lucky to catch the lively Yosakoi Soran Festival, a colourful street dance and parade to welcome Summer, during our stay. We had an enjoyable time at Yuen Sapporo.

Stayed for 3 nights. Overall a pleasant stay. Plus points given to the onsen. Staff were friendly and checking in and out was a breeze. Cleanliness needs to be improved. See images taken in the room. Overall will still recommend to stay here.

Convenient location. Within walking distance of tourist spots in Sapporo. Onsen was excellent. Some people complained about there not being enough sinks but I never had any issues. My wife said that there was a bit of a wait for the hair dryers in the women's bathing area. The breakfast was nice but too heavy on fish and egg dishes. It would have been nice to have some variety considering how expensive it is (4000 yen). The free drinks in the lobby were nice but we arrived an hour before finishing but the drinks were mostly empty. The staff were amazingly polite and professional. They are also extremely proficient in English but are willing to help you in Japanese which is wonderful for a Japanese learner like me. I also heard some staff speaking Korean and Chinese. Thank you for a lovely experience.

Visited in end June on a weekday for 1 night stay & it was not that crowded at the onsen. Modern ryokan located in Sapporo city Center. Made reservation online in advance & check in was smooth with staff being able to communicate in simple English. Room was clean and minimalistic Japanese style. Very convenient that there are washers and dryers on two levels of the building. There are outdoor and indoor onsen which was relaxing. Free ice cream bar after soaking. There’s a welcome drink session after check in. Breakfast included in the stay was a Japanese set at the restaurant which was delicious.

We could not recommend this hotel enough. The current review score on Google does not do it justice. From the moment we stepped in, every single staff member was incredibly kind, courteous, and worked to make our stay a real pleasure. The rooms were comfortable and we loved the traditional decorations. The Onsen was also outstanding and a real highlight (complete with the complimentary ice cream of course). Breakfast is also a great, but be sure to book I'm advance. Thank you to this team for making our stay in Sapporo such a pleasure, we will certainly be back!

Ryokan Yuen Sapporo was not just a place to stay for us. It became one of the sweetest and most memorable parts of our Japan trip. From the moment we arrived, there was a calm and authentic atmosphere that immediately made us feel relaxed. The ryokan concept here is beautifully done, giving a refined traditional feel while still being very comfortable for a family stay. One of the biggest highlights was definitely the onsen experience. It was peaceful, soothing, and truly one of those moments that made the journey feel extra special. We also loved the thoughtful touches throughout the stay. The welcoming drink was a lovely start to the experience. After enjoying the onsen, having a nice vanilla ice cream felt like such a simple but perfect treat. The yukata was also beautiful, and it made the stay feel even more immersive. We especially loved that the kids had their own version too, which made the whole experience feel even more memorable for the family. For the ladies, they also provide a red card for security, which we found very thoughtful and cool. Another small highlight was the food. The mochi was tasty, and even the fried mochi was such a delightful surprise. These little details made the stay feel even warmer and more charming. What made everything even better was the service. All the staff were very polite, helpful, and welcoming throughout our stay. Their hospitality truly added so much comfort and made us feel genuinely cared for. Location wise, this place is also excellent. There is a FamilyMart right next door, the station is within walking distance, and many places around Sapporo are easy to reach. It is the kind of location that gives you both convenience and a peaceful stay. For us, Ryokan Yuen Sapporo was more than just accommodation. It was a place where culture, comfort, and beautiful family memories came together in the best way. A truly charming stay that we will always remember fondly.

Disappointed in the customer service here, absolutely not baby friendly - especially the staff. Furthermore no proper knife available to cut fruit in our room. Today is Day 1, we checked in late in the afternoon with our 5 month old baby absolutely restless. First of all, their in-house car park was full & we couldn’t reserve ahead of time nor could they make an exception for us with the baby and several large pieces of luggage (elsewhere in Hokkaido the hotels were very understanding of this) - this wasn’t what ticked me off. Secondly, all I asked of them was to tell me when a free car spot would be made available (from a guest leaving), to give a call to my hotel room, but all they said was to keep trying my luck and drive to the car park at 3pm every day with the hope that there is a free spot - what kind of useless advice is this, basically telling me to pray to the car park gods. This was also not what ticked me off. What ticked me really off was when my wife with our 5 month old baby who was quite unsettled at the time had to handle all the check in herself and going into the room herself (while I tried to search for parking in the surrounding area). During this time, a young female staff member had helped to bring up the large pieces of luggage into the room with my wife following, as soon as the female staff member was done bringing in the luggage she just left my wife with the hotel room door shut - my wife with an unsettled baby pushing the pram, to then have to open the door herself, which was met with a “step” by the door that made it hard for her to enter in the room with the pram whilst keeping the door open herself. Given this female staff member saw my wife and knew the room - a little bit of common sense and customer service would have been great. Such a bad, dismal, disgusting experience in Sapporo so far - makes me absolutely hate Sapporo because of our experience with this hotel. Rooms are definitely not baby friendly - it’s not just the space being cramped but the people in this hotel just don’t care. I went down to mention this behaviour and give this feedback to the reception downstairs to a male staff member and he couldn’t do anything and just said sorry - like I had to really squeeze it out of him. Other reviewers may have had a pleasant experience - but ours so far has been bad, not family-friendly with tourists, dismal, disgusting, rude, lacking customer service. Will definitely not come again and advise future young families to not come here.
