City Lodge Stockholm

The best time to visit is late May through early September, when temperatures are mild and days are long. June and August are the most pleasant, with warm highs around 21°C and lower humidity than July. July is the rainiest month, with 15 rain days, while May and September offer drier, comfortable weather. Winter months are cold and dark, with January and December seeing the most rain and high humidity.

For first-time visitors, Norrmalm is central and convenient, close to the main shopping streets and the waterfront. Östermalm is more upscale and calm, with elegant streets and the waterfront promenade. Gamla Stan, the old town, suits those who want to be in the historic heart, with narrow alleys and the Royal Palace nearby. Södermalm is a lively, local area with cafes and views, good for a more neighborhood feel.

Start with the Vasa Museum, a 17th-century warship raised almost intact. The Royal Palace offers the royal apartments and the changing of the guard. Skansen is an open-air museum with historic buildings and Nordic animals. King's Garden is a central park for a stroll. ABBA The Museum is a fun, interactive tribute to the band.

The full-day tours head to Sigtuna and Uppsala. Sigtuna is Sweden's oldest town, with rune stones and a small-town feel. Uppsala has a famous cathedral and a historic university. These tours combine Viking history with countryside scenery. If you prefer a city-focused day, consider a boat trip to the Stockholm archipelago, a well-known escape from the city center.

Plan 3 to 4 days. In 3 days, see the Vasa Museum, the Royal Palace, Skansen, and King's Garden, with time for ABBA The Museum or Fotografiska. Add a fourth day for a day trip to Sigtuna and Uppsala, which needs an extra day beyond the city sights.
