I had such a wonderful time staying at this hotel. The room was large and beautiful. The view was amazing! They even give you a little guide so you can use to determine what mountain you're looking at. I rented a private onsen and it was so relaxing. All ReFa products btw. The food at the restaurant was also great. Hida beef is top tier. The only thing you should note is that this hotel is no where near anything else and that can be tough. They have a shuttle, but it runs once an hour. Of course taxis are available. It's just an adjustment coming from larger cities.

Really love this hotel so much I chose this hotel mainly because they provide a free shuttle bus — and they have one of the most frequent schedules. Didn’t expect it to turn out to be such a good choice! Not only are there many shuttle timings, they also offer complimentary luggage storage. It’s super convenient if you’re doing a day trip to Shirakawa-go, or if you arrive early — you can just drop your luggage and go shopping first. I dropped my luggage as soon as I arrived in Takayama, had breakfast, then headed straight to Shirakawa-go. When I came back and took the shuttle up to the hotel, my luggage was already delivered to my room 🥹 Super impressive service! Since the hotel is located up in the mountains, I decided to go for the breakfast & dinner included option. Both meals were really delicious. The room was spacious and clean. Staying here felt so relaxing — the perfect place to unwind and slow down in Takayama ♨️ If you’re visiting Takayama and want a comfortable stay, a mountain onsen hotel like this is definitely worth it 💯 Booked via Agoda Do compare prices before booking! After a long day of sightseeing on a Gate 1 tour, we finally got to our hotel at around 4-4:30 PM. The hotel is clean, rooms are beautiful BUT, there is no amenity where a diabetic can get something substantial for low sugar in the middle of the night. So, I nicely asked the restaurant personnel about getting a banana or blueberries or anything other than bread, cookies, or candy to take up to my room. I was told, no, it’s against their rules to allow food to leave the restaurant. I couldn’t believe it. They were willing to risk a persons’ life over a rule. I’m sorry, but an allowance should have been made for a person with a medical issue. I also spoke to my tour guide about it. He asked the restaurant staff about it and was told the same thing. He offered me no solutions. Thankfully, there were other people on my tour with diabetes who immediately offered to assist. I think that the restaurant’s lack of consideration should be noted and people should take their business to other resorts that don’t risk people’s lives over a rule.

Lovely hotel to stay in with two floors of public onsen (separate for men and women). The room is definitely much bigger than standard hotel rooms. There is shuttle bus every hour or so to Takayama station too. They will officially be rebranded Hilton hotel late this year. Hopefully not too much of drastic change in how they operate their business model.. The room that we stayed in has stunning view of the Alps. Loved the public bath, and their parking is free (if you happen to drive).

Wow!! What a absolutely fantastic Hotel (the word is that it is being considered by the Hyatt Hotel network to be acquired). The first plus is the large size of the rooms - very rare in Japan. The second plus is the morning breakfast "feast". And the third plus is the Onsens (hot bath areas). Let me give some context though - the Hotel is "relatively speaking" isolated (by some 10 minutes driving or 30 minutes walking) from the main City area around the Takayama Station - this is less of an issue as the Hotel provides an hourly Shuttle-bus service to the City centre. The Hotel building comprises 2 structures alongside each other and linked only at the ground/first floor and 2nd floors. In Winter it is surrounded by snow and in Summer there is a tennis court. All year round there are mountain views.

Stayed January 2-3, 2026 First and foremost, the SPA/onsen is really good! Dipping yourself in the bath while the snow hits you during the night feels good as well. Glad I visited since the hotel will undergo a renovation/rebranding this year 2026. ======== Stay information I availed: Standard japanese room (Non-Smoking) 6th-floor, mountain-side, near elevator ======== Reception: 5/5 The hotel staff at the reception is so accommodating, kind, and friendly. They will answer your concerns as well whether in japanese or english. (I do use japanese for ease of conversation but you can converse in english with no problems). Their reception picks up the local call (ext22) fast as well from the room if you have concerns. Room: 4/5 (I swear I can give 5 if only they got outlets for use..) If you got heavy or many baggages, they do offer a cart! This is really good since you can bring your baggages much easier. As for the room, since I availed the japanese room, it comes with the standard genkan, a powder/sink area, a bathroom, and the tatami-floored room. I highly suggest the rooms at the 6th floor since you got direct access to SPA wing / Onsen connection without waiting or using the elevator. The futon is simply very comfy and soft, the pillow got that hardness you may like, no foul or smelly odors as well. But the best part of the room? The view! The room i got has the mountain side, so I got the alps/mountain view. During the night and morning, I was greeted as well with a sunny heavy snow day. It truly became a majestic white world in a single night. As someone with multiple gadgets, i could’ve wished for more outlets (the room only had 2, one is used for the lamp and the other is behind the television). I suggest bringing a space extension cord. Bath/onsen: 5/5 おすすめ！ The bath. It’s fantastic. The 7th floor onsen and the 5th floor onsen of the spa wing switches the allowed gender daily, due to this, overnight or 2 days or above occupants may be able to enjoy both! (For Example, on day 1 [7F: ladies, 5F: gents], then on day 2 [7F: gents, 5F: ladies]) The layout is almost the same, but the 7th floor got the better highlight as it is the roof top = higher ceiling, more open air bath. Please do follow the general/common etiquette of bathing at a onsen in japan! Do so and you may elevate your japanese way of bathing experience. - no photography - public bathing, other people may see you naked - strictly no tattoos! Wanna hit the onsen? There are many ways to enjoy it, but the general rule is to never soil dirty the bath, for bathing steps, follow the following pattern: 1. shower/clean yourself 2. Put your squeezed, not-dripping onsen towel at your head without touching the water, dip on the onsen for few minutes until your shoulders (indoor) (Optional) Rinse yourself with mild-colder water in shower 3. Go out to the open-air onsen and try the different type of baths! 4. Stay-safe and enjoy! (Know your limits! Do finish your bathing if you already feel lightheadedness or headache to prevent heat stroke) Access: 5/5 (solo on-foot traveler) They got shuttle bus from Takayama station that comes every hour, it even runs late. Don’t worry. As for the bus schedule, the hotel provides them on their website. However, since this is on outskirt of the city, you don’t have much a stroll option unless you have a car. Other activities: They got Bar and Karaoke rooms as well! Sadly they only got 2 karaoke rooms, wished I could’ve availed them early! 😣 ========= Overall, it’s a great experience! I do recommend them to others who will visit takayama to relax as well. I really wished I could’ve stayed longer!

The rooms are dated and the carpet smells terribly. The windows are sealed so you can’t ventilate. We should have checked the reviews; this issue was already mentioned. We found hairs on the carpet and the tatami. To get to the hot spring you have to walk through 6 long corridors and take 4 different elevators.

Response from the property

We appreciate your feedback about the lack of amenities such as snacks and water in the room. We will consider how we can enhance our in-room offerings to provide better comfort to our guests. As for the Wi-Fi and the layout leading to the hot spring, we apologize for the inconvenience. Where can I eat near Hilton Takayama Resort?

The resort's own dining covers you well: the Restaurant serves Japanese and teppanyaki with Hida beef, the Cafe and Lobby bar offer lighter bites, and the Bar pours sake. Both are a short ride from the station, so plan your shuttle timing around dinner. The hotel's on-site options are the most convenient, especially after a day out.

What is the area around Hilton Takayama Resort like?

The Hilton Takayama Resort sits on a forested hillside above the city, with views of the Northern Japanese Alps. It is a quiet, scenic spot, about a 17-minute walk from the Hida no Sato Folk Village Museum, while central sights like Takayama Jinya and the Sanmachi Suji historic district are roughly 2.3 to 2.5 kilometers away. The immediate area is calm, with a Lawson convenience store and an ATM nearby for essentials. For exploring further, the hotel's shuttle connects to Takayama Station, where you can reach the old town and morning markets. The resort itself has a restaurant, bar, and cafe, so you can enjoy the peaceful setting without needing to go far.

How do I get to Hilton Takayama Resort from the airport or main train station?

From Takayama Station, the hotel runs a complimentary shuttle that takes about eight minutes. The shuttle follows a set schedule, so plan your arrival to match it. Alternatively, the Sarubobo Bus from Takayama Nohi Bus Center to Echigocho runs every 30 minutes and takes about 16 minutes. A taxi from the station covers the roughly 2.4 km in about three minutes. For flights, the usual route is a train to Nagoya, then the Limited Express Hida or a highway bus to Takayama, with the hotel shuttle covering the final leg from the station.

What's there to do near Hilton Takayama Resort in the evening?

In the evening, you can stay at the resort and enjoy its on-site dining, including the Bar, Cafe, Lobby bar, and Restaurant, which offer local dishes and Hida beef. For a change of scene, the complimentary shuttle takes you to Takayama Station in about eight minutes, and from there the old town and morning market area are a short walk. The Hida no Sato Folk Village Museum is a 17-minute walk from the hotel if you prefer to stay close. For a relaxed evening, consider a sake tasting at a historic brewery or a walking tour of the Edo-period old town, both available as tours in the city. The resort's hot springs and mountain views also make for a quiet end to the day.

Is Hilton Takayama Resort a good base for exploring Takayama?

Hilton Takayama Resort is a good base for exploring Takayama, especially if you plan to visit the Hida no Sato Folk Village Museum, which is just a 17-minute walk away. The resort is farther from the main sights, with Takayama Jinya and the Hida Takayama Retro Museum about 2.3 km away, and Sanmachi Suji at 2.5 km. For these, you can use the complimentary shuttle to Takayama Station, then walk or take a short ride to the old town and markets. The resort's own restaurant, bar, and cafe make it easy to relax after a day out. For sights further afield, like Sakurayama Hachimangu Shrine at 3.2 km, a taxi or local bus is a practical option. Overall, it works well for a mix of on-site relaxation and day trips into the city.
