A great experience! The location is unbeatable and loved the historic charm of the property. An exceptional breakfast buffet, but visit early to avoid the crowds! The room furnishings were a bit beat up but fit with the aesthetic of the hotel being within an older building. I actually found this quite charming! I do not mean “beat up” as a slight as the room was exceedingly clean. My daily indulgence in the unique indoor pool was a highlight of my stay. Shout out to the wonderful staff at the front desk, bar, and breakfast dining room. I will miss closing out my days with a glass of Isle of Lime whiskey!

Need a place to stay for a night due to the terrible roads (very slippery). The staff at the front desk is always available and welcoming. The room is not big but very cozy with a comfortable temperature. The breakfast is also good with a variety of options.

We spent five nights at the Joia Resort and truly enjoyed our stay. We booked through South West Airlines which bundled a competitively priced hotel/air package. First off the sargasso "seaweed" bloom is bad this year and not the fault of Ibero Star so I will not rate the beach. I will say that they are combing the beach daily, but from our flight in and out of Punta Cana Airport, you could see the mats of sargasso streaking the sea. It's not leaving anytime soon probably early December would be my guess. To my point, the beach is non swimmable. The good. Check in was smooth... we avoided the "club presentation" and they pressed no further when we declined. Our room was spotless and the fridge and minibar were well stocked. My wife appreciated the dark chocolate bars and jars of peanuts. The bed was comfortable but we found the pillows a little firm. They have a pillow menu on the Resort app through which we requested down pillows but they never showed up but it is probably an app glitch. We didn't care that much so we let it go but I'm sure with a quick phone call they would have quickly met our request. The Resort app will be great but we found there is little response when using the app. For example our room safe keypad broke when the closet door slid into the open safe door. I sent an incident request but had no response in over 12 hours. I went to the lobby desk in the morning and the safe was fixed in 15 minutes. They really try to please but sometimes technology gets in the way. Technology "0" human hospitality "5"! Room with "lake view " awesome and they clean the room twice a day. The app worked great here letting us know when they were cleaning our room and when it was completed. The pools were clean and spacious with plenty of cabana beds as the beach was unusable for swimming. Hot tubs were too hot and no one used them accordingly. Star friends were fun. We did the mamajuana drink mixology and had fun. The drink is an herbal beverage specific to Dominican Republic. Nothing to do with canabis. The bar/beverage team were top shelf as were the drinks themselves. Best Resort drinks we've had in 25 years of vacationing in the carribean. Not the watered down sugar concoctions of other resorts. Food was 4 to 5 stars for us we are not picky but do have decerning tastes. We ate at the Surf and Turf steakhouse and the Italian Ala carte restaurants. The buffets were our choice. Good quality with variations daily. The staff are phenomenal and are really what made our stay so special. Three stand outs, (Yari, Benjamin and Samuel) at the buffet made us feel so at ease and we can't thank them enough. All in all this was a well spent vacation. We would love to come back in the future.

Within the city walls and near the center of Visby, the hotel is perfectly located to explore the town. After walking the town, the hotel appeared to be the nicest in Visby so there aren’t really higher end options we saw. Parking is available right next to the hotel for a daily fee of about US$50 and is super convenient. The lot has several free electric vehicle charging stations. The hotel is quite large (the photos are deceiving because it is comprised of several joined buildings that extend down the entire street. The public spaces have charm and drama. The breakfast room is quite nice and the offerings about what one might expect: buffet scrambled eggs, cheeses, yogurt and muesli, bread and some fruit—no omelets made-to-order. Staff is friendly but there are no bellhops so you might end up with a bit of a journey through the hotels to get your bags to your room if staying in one of the further ends of the place. We booked room 565 which is a suite on the highest floor. It was well worth the expense and quite spacious. We were very happy there for four nights. Wonderful harbor views, windows (with shades) flooding the room with light, an entry vestibule, a large living room and bedroom with the bathroom near the entry vestibule. Amenities were minimal with no complimentary bottles of water or the like. There was a coffee machine, though. The room had no bureau with drawers but had a wardrobe to hang clothes in. There was not turndown service. The room was clean but a bit more attention could be paid to dusting light fixtures and picture frames and the like. The standards guest rooms we saw were rather small.

The check-in experience was disappointing. The directions to our room were confusing, and the receptionist was almost inaudible, making it difficult to understand the instructions. Once we found the room, however, it was lovely. Dinner on the terrace restaurant was also disappointing. We waited around an hour for our food, and the drinks service was very slow. To make matters worse, several tables that arrived after us and ordered later were served before we were. The waitress was friendly and polite, but the lamb burger with fries was smaller than a Happy Meal—without the toy or the happiness. Our drinks didn't arrive until we had almost finished eating. Breakfast, on the other hand, was very good and was the highlight of our stay.

I stayed at the Clarion Hotel Wisby on the 4th floor and had the most incredible view of the water and parts of Visby’s old city wall—absolutely postcard-worthy! I even shared some of the views on my blog, Swedish Wanderlust. The location is fantastic, and the restaurant next door was amazing. We ate there our first night, and the staff could not have been friendlier—it set the tone for a wonderful trip. Our room was unique and charming, with two floors: a cozy living room with a sofa and TV downstairs, and a bedroom with another TV upstairs. If you have mobility challenges, I’d recommend calling ahead to request a single-level room, as I’m sure the hotel can accommodate that. The bathroom was older but in a way that matched the historic theme of the hotel, and the space was spotless. I appreciated that they provided a fan and that the air conditioning worked perfectly—rare in many European hotels! The only downside was that our refrigerator didn’t work, and although we reported it twice, it was never fixed during our stay. Everything else, however, was perfect. Oh, and a fun fact—our room may have had a mysterious “visitor.” One night I woke up to what looked like a glowing figure by the bed reaching out toward me. Maybe it was a dream… maybe not! 😂 Either way, I slept with the TV on after that. All in all, this was a fantastic experience in a beautiful, historic hotel. I would absolutely stay here again and recommend it to anyone visiting Visby.

Staff is polite, rooms are clean and a bit old timey which is a thing this hotel has. I have stayed here once before and honestly reason I booked again is really nice breakfast, location and fact room was clean really well. One thing I did not like is bathtub in the room. My dislike for bathtubs in hotels is huge and I am super scared to use them fearing I would slip. However, I think if I only mentioned something to front desk they would change my room, so can’t remove any starts for that it would not be fair.

I booked Clarion at the last minute when Fängelse Hostel messed up my booking and I couldn’t check-in there. Yes, this is much more expensive for my budget but it was well worth it after a few hours& stress dealing with the other place. It is a historic building and has very lovely atmosphere. My last-minute is “single” but the bed is big enough for two people. The room is relatively spacious and has a lot of light. The breakfast is quite good, with many different juices and smoothies, though coffee is mediocre (well, Sweden is not famed for their coffee). There are some typical Swedish spreads and pickled fish I don’t easily get in other European countries’ breakfast buffet, so u enjoyed it very much. The location is very centrally located but not too close to get busy restaurant/ bar areas uphills from here. Overall I highly recommend them and thanks them for saving my day (and my whole stay in Visby and Gotland Island)
