⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ We had an outstanding stay at the Fairmont Washington, D.C. Check-in was incredibly fast and efficient, with no waiting in line at all—a great first impression after a long trip. Our room was modern, spotless, and beautifully maintained. The bed was exceptionally comfortable, with a high-quality mattress that provided one of the best nights of sleep we’ve had in a hotel. The air conditioning was quiet, powerful, and kept the room at the perfect temperature throughout our stay. Breakfast was outstanding, offering a wide variety of fresh, high-quality options. The service was excellent, and every member of the staff we met was genuinely friendly, professional, and eager to help. One of the highlights of the hotel is its impressive three-level fitness center, complete with a large indoor swimming pool, a relaxing jacuzzi, and excellent gym equipment. It is easily one of the best hotel fitness facilities we have experienced. We also enjoyed spending time at the stylish lobby bar on the first floor. The atmosphere is welcoming, and the menu offers a great selection of cocktails, wines, spirits, and other beverages. If you’re looking for a luxury hotel in Washington, D.C. with outstanding service, comfortable rooms, an excellent breakfast, a fantastic fitness center with a pool and jacuzzi, and a great location, the Fairmont Washington is an excellent choice. We would be delighted to stay here again.

What I have to add to the general praise - belatedly - is that the allergy care for my son at breakfast was exemplary. The team went out of their way to cater for multiple allergies, and he was able to have pancakes (egg free, dairy free) in a hotel for the first time. I'd like to especially thank the Exec Chef Jaime Montes de Oca, who made a point of checking in several times to see if their work was being enjoyed and ask for input on how to make the service better. That experience boosted my son's confidence in trying new things (well, other pancakes) at different restaurants and hotels since. In general, it was a very relaxing stay. I've stayed at the R-C in Georgetown too, a few years ago, it's also great but I find the Fairmont more relaxed....

We checked in and the lady at the front desk was noting but rude. She didn't offer assistance for our bags and we were Gold Level. Neither she offer check in on the 9th floor. I also upgraded for a view of DC room which was a joke. Just a view of outside buildings. Moved to 944 next day. Sheets were like cheap low thread count very abrasive. Bellmen were supposed to move our luggage to new room as were out in meetings all day. Came back .... no luggage in our new room where we shifted. Had to wait on luggage after being out in the heat all day. We love the Fairmonts in Canada but DC is no where to be compared to them. The nicest people were in the Gold lounge.

I've stayed at the Fairmont annually in the fall for over one decade. The hotel is well located, has beautiful common areas and professional service. This year, however, temperatures are 13 degrees colder than usual for this date. If you don't like cold room temps, don't come this fall season. The hotel regulates room thermostats and does not offer room heating until later in the year. I requested a space heater and was sent a fan. After calling back to indicate it was not a heater I was informed the hotel has an energy savings program and they would make an exception for my room, activating the heater control on my thermostat. It worked for a while but did not warm the room. Given that I'm staying three nights this is unacceptable. I did not come to the Fairmont to catch a cold. I sourced a space heater nearby and brought it over to the hotel. This is unacceptable for a hotel that is otherwise very good.

Disappointing Check-In Experience and Questionable Upselling My first 30 minutes at the Georgetown Fairmont in Washington, DC has left me extremely disappointed as im a guest for 3 more days! I arrived for check-in at 4:00 p.m. and was advised that the room type I had reserved was not available and that I would need to wait, with no estimated time given. However, I was then immediately offered a room on the 9th-floor Gold level that was available at that moment, provided I paid an additional upgrade fee. I explained that since it was already check-in time and my reserved room was unavailable, I would gladly accept a complimentary upgrade, but I was not interested in paying extra simply to obtain a room immediately. The front desk associate, Antek, excused herself to speak with her manager. When she returned, she said she had good news and that her manager had approved moving me. As she completed the reservation, however, she told me my room would be on the 4th floor. I was confused. I had just been told my room type was unavailable. When I asked what happened to the 9th-floor room, I was told that I had declined to pay for the upgrade. I then asked how a 4th-floor room of my reserved type had suddenly become available. The explanation was that the room was the same room type I had booked, but it had previously been assigned to another guest who had not yet checked in. I specifically asked whether the 9th-floor room they had offered me for an additional fee had also been assigned to another guest. I was told that it had. I repeated my understanding three times to make sure there was no misunderstanding: the hotel was willing to move me into an already-assigned room immediately if I paid an upgrade fee, yet initially would not move me into an already-assigned room of the same category I had actually reserved without charging me more. Instead, I was initially told I would simply have to wait for my assigned room, with no ETA. If I have accurately understood what was explained to me, I find this upselling approach deeply concerning. Guests should not be made to feel that paying an additional fee is their solution to a room-availability problem at check-in, particularly when another room in their reserved category can apparently be reassigned. I am sharing this experience so other guests, particularly elderly or vulnerable travelers, feel comfortable asking questions and requesting clarification before agreeing to additional charges. This was only my first 30 minutes at the hotel, but unfortunately it created a very poor first impression

★☆☆☆☆ Extremely Disappointing Stay — Far Below Fairmont Standards I cannot express how disappointing our stay at the Fairmont Washington, D.C. was. For a hotel that positions itself as a luxury property, the experience was unacceptable from beginning to end. Between the poor service, questionable cleanliness, terrible food, and tired accommodations, there was absolutely nothing about this stay that reflected the Fairmont name or the level of hospitality one should expect. The lobby bar was a complete disappointment. The bartender was inattentive and, even more concerning, was repeatedly putting his fingers in his mouth while working behind the bar. This was incredibly off-putting and raised serious concerns about hygiene. We ordered a cheese and charcuterie board that was embarrassingly poor in both quality and presentation. The grapes were visibly shriveled, and the entire board looked like something that should never have left the kitchen, much less been served at a supposed luxury hotel. Breakfast was somehow even worse. Breakfast was included with our stay, but the experience was so unpleasant that it hardly felt like a benefit. When we arrived, there was no one to greet or seat us. We actually had to walk into the restaurant and find the host ourselves. Once seated, we waited nearly 20 minutes before anyone approached our table with menus or water. The restaurant was clearly understaffed, and the waitstaff appeared completely overwhelmed. While I can sympathize with employees being placed in an impossible situation, what I cannot excuse is the management. We actually overheard a manager telling the waitstaff that he didn’t care about the guests and that everyone would just have to wait. To hear a manager express that attitude within earshot of paying guests was shocking, unprofessional, and frankly insulting. It spoke volumes about the lack of leadership and hospitality at this property. The guest room was equally disappointing. The room was old, tired, and in desperate need of renovation and attention to detail. There were multiple visible imperfections throughout. The bathroom light flickered so badly that it resembled a strobe light. The bathtub looked worn and dirty, and the couch had noticeable stains. These are not minor cosmetic issues that should be overlooked at a hotel charging luxury rates. They reflect a lack of proper maintenance, housekeeping standards, and basic quality control. What made this experience particularly frustrating was that the problems were not isolated to one department or one unfortunate interaction. The shortcomings were everywhere — the bar, the restaurant, the service, the management, and the room itself. At every turn, there was another disappointment. Fairmont is a name that is supposed to represent exceptional hospitality, attention to detail, and a refined guest experience. Unfortunately, this property delivered none of those things. Instead, we experienced indifferent service, unacceptable food quality, poor cleanliness, visibly neglected accommodations, and management behavior that was completely inappropriate. This was not a luxury hotel experience. It was an expensive exercise in frustration and disappointment. I would not recommend the Fairmont Washington, D.C. based on our experience. The property needs serious attention to its service standards, staff support, management, food quality, cleanliness, and room maintenance. A recognizable luxury brand name means very little when the actual guest experience falls this far below expectations. An absolutely awful stay and one I have no desire to repeat.

Overall, if you want a safe neighbourhood with shops and boutique stores within walking distance, then Georgetown is a terrific location. We spent almost one week in a Fairmont Gold suite, with access to the Gold Lounge. Breakfast was the best serving of the day, but unlike Fairmont Chateau Frontenac, evening hors d'oeuvres were briskly removed at 9:30 pm, including all snacks. No, they did not have any jelly candies or chocolate and fruit left until closing; no sparkling Eska water in tap, no specialized desserts that differed every night, unlike Chateau. In fact, I found it quite distasteful that they served the same exact dessert several nights in a row. I was suprised to see NO snacks after 9:30 (even bars, chips, chocolate, fruit,) AND they only had fibre bars once. There was a char of chocolate that was only kept out during the service time, and even that disappeared on day 3. To make it worse, dinner is not ima restaurant, but in the lounge. The picture below is our food on one bar table that we ate admist screaming over the World Cup. The dinner tool 40 plus minutes to arrive, and we almost left. Who ever heard of a supposed five star hotel with no indoor restaurant?! We walked to the Exorcist steps (and both concierge staff at the main hall didn’t even know what it was, when I asked about them- which should be their job?), and the riverside is a walk as well. It’s not close to the Smithsonian, and we just took an uber everywhere. The bed was firm. VERY firm. As in, in all my luxury hotels I have stayed at, it has been the firmest. The one side table charging ports connected to the lamp did not work, which was a major inconvenience since there were no plugs nearby! We had the usual steamer, hair dryer, robes, slippers and everything else was fine. I found the shower handle for the water temperature very quirky and felt loose. I had to spend some time fiddling with it to get a warm shower started. The room was large and they quickly provided us with a roll away bed. Long sofa and good space for the tv. It was quiet on our floor. We didn’t try the pool oe workout room since we were so busy with sightseeing. This is my fourth visit to the city, and will stay elsewhere next time.

Overall 4.8/5. The property is absolutely great and so is the service. Highly recommend it for all. I read the reviews about the AC and temperature not being lower than 73. I called ahead of time and the Fairmont Royal Service team ensured the temperature in the room will be adjustable to our needs. It was 100+ during July 4th weekend and they ensured the temperature in the room was comfortable. The pool is the only downside if traveling with kids. I didn’t know the pool is not Fairmont pool. It is actually owned by a proper gym so the hours varies too. Hence I haven’t given the property a 5/5 because I had kids and cared for the pool. It is a great lap pool for excerise and the gym is great too for adults. There is a whirlpool, steam, sauna, and lots and lots of excerise machines. Service, staff, lobby bar, and Georgetown location was ideal and great. Highly recommend it for all.
