For a quick bite, the hotel's own snack bar is handy, and the rooftop bar is a great spot for a drink with a view. Right nearby, you'll find A Loja dos Pasteis de Chaves, Casa Chelense, and Pastelaria Estacao Doce. A short walk brings you to Porta Larga, Restaurante Ze Neto, A Toca do Gato, and Ze Manel dos Ossos, all serving local fare. A Cozinha da Maria, known for healthy dishes, is also in close proximity. These options give you plenty of choice without going far.
The hotel sits in the lower town of Coimbra, a UNESCO-protected zone right by the Mondego River, with the university and old city rising above. You are a short walk from the Barbican Gate (3 min), the Monastery of the Holy Cross (4 min), and the Old Cathedral (5 min). The Parque da Cidade Manuel Braga is 7 minutes away, and the Science Museum is 8 minutes. The hotel's rooftop bar offers views over the university and the historic rooftops. From Coimbra-A train station, the hotel is just 50 meters away, so you can walk there in under a minute. If you arrive at Coimbra-B, take the shuttle bus to Coimbra-A, which runs frequently. From Lisbon or Porto airports, take a train to Coimbra-B, then connect to Coimbra-A. A taxi from Coimbra-B covers about 1.5 km and takes roughly 1 minute. The hotel is also a short walk from the city center, making arrival straightforward.
In the evening, you can enjoy a cocktail at the hotel's own rooftop bar, which offers views over the University and the old town. For a stroll, the Barbican Gate is a 3-minute walk away, and the Monastery of the Holy Cross is 4 minutes on foot. The Old Cathedral of Coimbra, 5 minutes away, and the New Cathedral, 7 minutes away, are also nearby. The hotel's snack bar is another option for a casual bite. From the central location, you can easily walk to other spots in the Baixa area.
Hotel Mondego is an excellent base for exploring Coimbra on foot. The Barbican Gate is a 3-minute walk away, and the Monastery of the Holy Cross is just 4 minutes from the door.
