Hosshoji
Hosshō-ji (法性寺) is a small, serene Nichiren-sect Buddhist temple set in the wooded hills of Futtsu, Chiba. The temple's own records describe a lineage stretching back more than 560 years: it began as a Tendai house that the founding priest Nichiei re-established as a Hokke (Lotus Sutra) temple, and it has kept that "Hokke temple" identity ever since. What draws visitors here is atmosphere rather than spectacle. A few minutes' drive from Futtsu City Hall, the grounds sit wrapped in forest, giving the precincts a quiet, away-from-the-city calm uncommon so close to the coast. It is a place to slow down, stroll the temple grounds, and join a hands-on sutra-copying session rather than tick off famous sights.
