Nina River
The Nina River (Nino-gawa) is a small, clear mountain stream in the highlands of Kumakogen, in Ehime Prefecture's Kamiukena District. It belongs to the headwater region of the Niyodo River system, the Class-A river famous across Japan for the startlingly transparent, jade-to-cobalt tones nicknamed "Niyodo Blue." On its own the Nina is a quiet feeder brook rather than a sightseeing attraction. Its real interest is where it sits: in the cool, forested basin country of Kumakogen, only a short drive from Omogo Gorge and the upper Omogo River, the Ehime-side stretch of the same watershed that gives the Niyodo its legendary water quality. For visitors, the Nina River works best as one more pure, cold stream to notice while exploring the Kumakogen plateau and the scenic routes that trace the Niyodo's source country beneath Mount Ishizuchi.
