Sairakuji
Sairakuji (西楽寺) is a small Buddhist temple tucked into the residential heart of Miyawaka, a quiet inland city in central Fukuoka Prefecture on Kyushu. Set at 574 Honjo within the old Horada–Wakamiya plain, it is the kind of neighborhood place of worship that local families have turned to for generations—a working parish temple rather than a ticketed attraction, and all the more charming for it. The simple shrine-line approach, the low temple gate, and the stillness of the precinct give visitors a glimpse of everyday devotional life in rural Kyushu. A short visit here suits travelers who enjoy off-the-beaten-path temple-hopping and want to slow down between the bigger sights of northern Kyushu. It pairs naturally with a drive around Miyawaka's countryside—rolling rice plains, temple bells, and hilltop shrines—where the famous sea-of-clouds viewpoint at Seisuiji temple and the hot-spring town of Wakita Onsen are easy companions.
