Grotte de Saint Joseph Notre Dame de Lourdes
The Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes is a natural rock-sheltered devotional site in the hills of Saint-Joseph, Martinique. Inaugurated in 1904, it draws on the tradition of Marian grottoes that spread across the Catholic world following the 1858 apparitions in Lourdes, France. A small spring flows beside the grotto, adding to its quiet, meditative atmosphere. For Martiniquais Catholics, this is one of the island's most frequented pilgrimage sites, especially during Holy Week. Its setting in lush vegetation, the sound of running water, and the stone-vaulted chapel make it a place of genuine serenity whether or not you share the faith that draws the crowds.
